  2. 'This one feels so much bigger'published at 18:13 26 May

Mike Hughes, BBC Radio Merseyside reporter: "There are so many people in the city of Liverpool today - it's fantastic to see. Everyone is in great spirits.

"Crowds of people have been streaming along Ranelagh Street and Hanover Street towards the waterfront.

"We've obviously had homecoming parades in the city before, and I've covered many of them, but we've got so many people from near and far this time.

"This one just feels so much bigger."

Crowds of Liverpool fans streaming past Liverpool's Central station heading to the waterfront

Paul Salt, BBC Radio Merseyside presenter: "I've covered Liverpool parades before - 2001, 2005 and 2019, for example - but I've never, ever seen anything like this.

"Five years ago under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool won the Premier League, but none of the fans could share the moment with the players. So today is about celebrating 2020 and 2025.

"A lot of Scousers have grown up with stories from their parents and grandparents about the days of Shankly, Paisley, Dalglish etc.

"Well, today is this generation's day - for them to talk about for years to come."

Two hours out, Allerton Maze is filling up

    "A lesson in logistics."

That was what one gent told me in Liverpool on his morning walk. He was discussing making plans for the Premier League trophy parade.

Another told me he was out early to find a "parking spec for later" so he could get his 80-year-old dad and his toddler close enough to the start point.

From Allerton Maze, Liverpool's players will cruise a red river today. It will pass houses decorated for the occasion, it will pass screaming fans, it will pass smoke and be a general outpouring of pride and mayhem.

The smell will live on clothes, the love will be shared and the images will stay stored on camera rolls and in minds.

The Strand, where the river finishes, will hear song, be drenched in confetti and by the end of the day wear the look of a road that has taken an unusual hammering.

Liverpool moved to their own rhythm this season and today their bus will float down its river of glory.

Shankly famously told the masses that he "drummed it into our players time and again that they are privileged to play for you".

Today, this modern crop will see, up close, exactly who it is that they play for.

  7. 'Priority was to get our hands on the trophy' but 'big investment' neededpublished at 11:54 26 May

After Liverpool finally got their hands on the Premier League trophy and celebrated in front of their fans, we asked for your feelings on the Reds' season.

Here are some of your comments:

Paul: What a club! We found a way to win when at times we shouldn't have. The celebrations were a release for all the frustrations of being pipped at the post on the last day and not being able to lift the trophy with fans. My bottom lip went when we sang YNWA to the team and staff. So emotional.

Reg: Very happy we are champions thanks to a fantastic 2024 - but during 2025 we were never as good. Thankfully the title looked secure, but tired legs and a lot of substandard performances in 2025 showed we needed to strengthen the squad.

Stephen: Performance was OK on the day, but the main priority was to get our hands on the trophy and celebrate with the fans. What a season we've had and it'll only get better for our great club. Special word for our manager Arne Slot - what a manager, what a job he's done. Made the Premier League look easy to win, and he's done it with hardly any money spent. That alone deserves a mention. Now, we can celebrate properly, unlike in 2020, and then we go again next season and have another outstanding season next year. Up the mighty Reds!

Dave: Very happy with the season, standout players for me - Salah, Mac Allister and Van Dijk, but all played their parts. Right, now to invest in transfer market as the drop-off from first-choice side to rest of squad was marked, most notably when the midfield was changed in extra time v PSG. This could be just the start of an era of success, especially if the mooted signings appear.

Mike: It is obvious there needs to be big investment and a clearout of some of the current squad to repeat this year's efforts. These past few games have shown there needs to be a different mindset. Collectively we can win games but we don't have individual winners of games.

  8. 'Absolutely sensational' - Shearer on Salahpublished at 10:08 26 May

    Media caption,

Arne Slot's side cruised to a record-equalling 20th top flight title and Mohamed Salah more than played his part.

Liverpool scored the most goals in the Premier League this season, with the Egyptian scoring 29 of their 86, and finishing the season with 18 assists.

Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day, the Premier League's all-time leading goal scorer Alan Shearer was full of praise for Salah.

"What a season, what a player," he said. "Twenty nine goals in the league and 18 assists. It's just ridiculous consistency from this guy.

"He very rarely misses any games and the brilliance he brings to Liverpool [is so important]."

Salah scored on the final day to tie the record for most goals and assists combined in a Premier League season - along with Shearer and Andy Cole.

"Once he gets on [his left foot] he really is deadly and he's an incredible player," Shearer added. "Obviously he plays in a really good team and good teams need great players. There's no doubt he is that and he's been absolutely sensational.

No-one was in any mood for negativity, so it was a nice touch that Trent Alexander-Arnold was cheered onto the pitch as a half-time substitute on Sunday to play his final 45 minutes in a Liverpool shirt.

Having been booed by some Reds' fans at Anfield in the game after announcing he would end his two-decade long association with the club at the end of the season, the response this time was only positive as his first touch of the ball was greeted by huge applause.

There were more big cheers when he was presented with the trophy and the full-back struggled to hold back the tears as he hugged his team-mates for a final time on the Anfield pitch.

"I didn't know what to expect stepping out at Anfield after what had happened a few weeks ago," Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports.

"I wanted to play for the club one more time and he [Arne Slot] trusted me to play. To get the reception I got means more than anything.

"I've played hundreds of games for the club but I've never felt so loved and cared for than today.

"There wasn't a day, minute, second that I didn't think about the team. Twenty years is a very long time time but I've loved every single minute of it. The ups and the downs.

"It's been an honour and privilege to be part of. I'll remember this day. It's very special for me. It goes down as the best day of my life."

It was fitting that Alexander-Arnold's final Liverpool performance was up there with some of his best. He displayed his incredible range of passing to help turn the tide of the match in the home side's favour.

"It was no surprise they [the fans] were brilliant today, and also towards Trent," said Slot. "It also helped what an unbelievable half he played. He deserved it - I'm very happy for him in and around the club.

"Everyone could see how difficult he had it after the game and that shows how hard it is to leave the club. That is all we can do, make it hard for players to leave the club but it was great for him to have the farewell."

  11. Twenty years on, Liverpool lay down another markerpublished at 21:50 25 May

On this day 20 years ago came what - for many - was Liverpool's greatest night.

A generation of fans saw what they had not been previously granted - a European Cup win. An older generation saw it for perhaps a second, third or maybe even fifth time… but never like this.

The events of Istanbul bonded families.

Stories of the night, of six second-half minutes, of trying to locate the Ataturk Stadium and of the parade all married together for an event mums, dads, grandparents and generations still shake heads disbelievingly over today.

On the night itself, one fan sporting a club tracksuit infamously broke on to the pitch. He danced with players, kissed the trophy and even featured in team photographs.

The gent in question was in fact a celebrated and respected full-back at non-league Vauxhall Motors. Even though he spent his weekends competing doggedly in English football's sixth tier at the time and knew the buzz of victory as a paid player, seeing his heroes come back from the dead somehow drew him to the pitch.

Watching in a Liverpool bar, his dad said later: "The greatest night in the Reds' history and my lad's got his face right in the middle of it."

The ending of a 21-year wait for a European Cup did strange things to people. Fast forward to the present and fans are living out the end of another wait as they witness the Reds lift the title in front of them for a first time since 1990.

There was no shootout on foreign fields. Instead, there were tears and shaking heads.

This was the weekend where Liverpool did not celebrate an anniversary but instead laid down a new marker in their history.

The weekend where Ed Sheeran and Sam Fender graced the city to unite revellers in song. The weekend where hundreds of thousands filled the streets for their team. The weekend where red smoke dusted the Liver Birds on the waterfront. If those birds could talk, what would they make of it all?

Perhaps they would say it has bonded families - again.

Very little could be better than that.

We asked for your views on and pictures after Liverpool finished their season with a home draw against Crystal Palace and lifted the Premier League trophy at Anfield.

Here are some of your pictures and comments:

Eugene: Back where we belong. Champions. Well done, boys. Glad TAA played. Last time. Klippity Klopp was there. Great day.

Chris: The PL belongs to us. Honestly and fairly, we didn't give it the finish it should have deserved and the fans deserve but we have won the jackpot and hopefully that gives us more grit and hunger to carry on to next season. Well done to all the players and fans for quite the season. Let's make sure we take what we have learned and go and get more silverware.

Karl: Well done. Head and shoulders above the opposition. Dominated the league. The team will be stronger next season with better full-backs and even more creativity up top. Can't wait!

Mia: Liverpool have had the greatest season - they deserve this so much and it is such an achievement for them. As well, Klopp - our best manager - has returned home for our achievement. Well done, Liverpool. Forever Red.

Ben: This is what dreams are all about. Before the season started, very few people would have realistically thought that the title would be going to Anfield but, as soon as City lost Rodri for the season and began to falter, Liverpool took full advantage and that is why they have lifted the trophy.

Tundi: Anytime Liverpool win the league it's a joyous occasion. Being able to share it with fans IN THE STADIUM is more than wonderful. Winners always want more, so I hope with the incoming signings that Slot's vision bears fruit. If Klopp was Shankly, Slot is Paisley so trophies galore is the minimum for the coming years.

  13. 'At certain clubs it's maybe a bit more special' - Slotpublished at 18:54 25 May

Arne Slot celebrates with the Premier League trophyImage source, Getty Images

Liverpool boss Arne Slot, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's always special to win something, but at certain clubs maybe a little bit more. I experienced this at Feyenoord where the fans are so passionate, and it's the same and more over here.

"I don't think you expect anything like this. If you look at the Premier League in the past few seasons, it was always a race to the end - two or three teams competing to the last day. To be part of it was already nice, let alone to win it."

On when his mind switches to next season: "Probably four weeks ago! It never stops. Even during the season you are looking to the next one. The sporting director is more involved in the long term than me, but he keeps me involved the whole time, as you can expect. The targets we have now did not come up last week. We've been looking at them for a long time."

On the defining moment of the season: "Thinking we would be part of it came early in the season after the United win. Before that we played good teams but to beat them 3-0 in their stadium when we expected them to be top six it was 'OK we can compete for the league this season'.

"Then after City away that was really a moment where I thought it was going to be difficult for other teams to end up above us."

  14. Liverpool 1-1 Crystal Palace - sensational Salahpublished at 18:43 25 May

It had to be Mohamed Salah.

With just six minutes remaining of Sunday's season finale at Anfield against Crystal Palace, Salah stepped up to score the final goal of a memorable, title-winning campaign for Liverpool.

This was always going to be a day of celebration but for a long while it looked like it would be one that ended in a loss after Ismaila Sarr's early goal.

But Liverpool have often found a way and they did once again as they were rewarded for a strong finish as Salah finished from close range.

He was chasing a personal record of the most goal involvements but had been quiet for large periods until this late contribution.

It took his tally to 29 goals and 18 assists, equalling a record held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.

  15. 'This is what we missed five years ago'published at 18:36 25 May

Liverpool players lifts the Premier League trophyImage source, Getty Images

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock, speaking to BBC 5 Live at Anfield: "Phenomenal. This is what we missed five years ago.

"It was soulless last time. This is what you wanted and this is what we expected today. "What an incredible atmosphere it is.

"I'm a little bit lost for words. This is brilliant to see the players enjoying it so much.

"Since FSG have come in, the thought behind what goes on is meticulous and I think that is credit to the way the club is being run since they came in. This will be so well planned over the past two or three months and I think the parade will be extra special again tomorrow.

    "This is brilliant."

BBC Radio 5 Live chief football correspondent John Murray at Anfield: "Virgil van Dijk hoists the Premier League trophy and Liverpool are the champions for 2025. And this time we don't have to imagine all the people as in 2020. Today, we can share it as one.

"Red ticker tape all over Anfield. Red smoke everywhere, what a brilliant scene.

"There's a banner in the corner of the Kop which says, 'He brought us number 20 and his name is Arne Slot', and that's what they've got.

"This Premier League title means they're champions for a record-equalling 20 times.

"Red and white scarves raised on the Kop, in the Sir Kenny Dalglish stand, in the Main Stand, at the Anfield Road End.

"And the Liverpool players, all of the first-team squad, coaches, the lot of them, in one long wobbly line on the edge of the area in front of the Kop with the Premier League trophy on the penalty spot.

    "Great scenes."
