Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell told BBC Scotland: "It was a rollercoaster. When you go a goal down, you start to see the reaction and the personality of the players.
"We relied on our goalkeeper [Aston Oxborough] massively after the penalty. What a moment for him, it's almost like a goal for him.
"In the end, the players stood tall and I thought they managed the game really well.
"It's a massive victory for us and it keeps that feelgood factor going."

Lennon Miller scored both goals in Saturday's 2-1 win over St Mirren
It was the Lennon Miller show once again, for the first half at least.
After last week's calm stoppage-time spot kick to put his side into the semi-finals of the League Cup, the teenager stepped up once more.
Not only did he score both Motherwell goals, but he also had more touches in the opposition box than any other player.
Miller is naturally a central midfielder, but has been deployed as a right inside forward as part of a narrow front three in Motherwell's last two matches.
That certainly doesn't look like its bothering him. He is flourishing in his new position and can add versality to his long list of desirable attributes.

Motherwell forward Filip Stuparevic has joined Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton on a season-long loan just two months after joining the club.
The Serbian, who arrived at Fir Park in the summer from Slovenian outfit NK Domzale, has scored one goal in four appearances for Motherwell.
"Filip is an extremely talented player that will get the fans off their seat," said Morton manager Dougie Imrie.
"He is just 24-years-old but joins with a wealth of experience and he will be real asset to the team.

Motherwell failed to win all three of their league meetings with St Mirren last season (D2 L1), picking up just two points.
St Mirren have only won one of their last six league trips to Motherwell (D2 L3), a 1-0 win in September 2023.
Motherwell have won two of their last four home league games (D1 L1), as many as their previous 15 beforehand (W2 D6 L7).
St Mirren have only won one of their last nine away league outings (D3 L5), a 3-1 win at Dundee in May last season.
Toyosi Olusanya has scored in each of his last three league games; the last player to score in four straight top-flight appearances for St Mirren was Andy Dorman in April 2009, whose fourth such match in that streak was against Motherwell.

Stephen O'Donnell sustained a shoulder injury last Friday against Dundee United
Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell wants the type of challenge that resulted in Stephen O'Donnell's shoulder injury to be "outlawed from the game".
The right-back is set to miss out against St Mirren on Saturday after suffering a shoulder issue in last Friday's League Cup quarter-final win over Dundee United.
Kettlewell confirmed the defender has not trained all week but said the injury is "definitely not as bad as we first feared".
O'Donnell landed heavily on his shoulder after jumping for a high ball and falling over the top of United wing-back Will Ferry.
While Ferry showed plenty of concern for his opponent, Kettlewell feels the general issue should be addressed by the SFA's head of referees Willie Collum.
Speaking prior to the Premiership visit of Stephen Robinson's Paisley side, Kettlewell said: "We were obviously looking at dislocations and all that stuff, which he has been cleared of, but he took a pretty significant blow from a height.
"If you look at the challenge, I don't think there is any intention whatsoever from the player... what is it they call it in rugby, the tip tackle? If you are up there contesting the ball, you can't make a back for the opponent.
"It's something I think needs to be outlawed from the game.
"We have had a wee bit of dialogue with Willie and it's not a rant, it's just something I feel we are missing.
"Without being too dramatic, if Stephen falls another couple of inches in the way and lands on his head, what's his neck supported by other than his full body weight coming down on top of him?".
"I don't want to dampen the mood from the game, I thought it was really well officiated last Friday, but I just feel it's something our eye isn't particularly well trained for.
"It was his shoulder fortunately, but I feel that could be a little bit worse unless we start to get a grip of it... we are starting to run the risk of pretty serious injury."
Kettlewell on O'Donnell injury, enticing fans back & 'magical' cup winpublished at 12:35 26 September 2024

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell has been speaking to the media prior to Saturday's Premiership visit of St Mirren.
Here are the key lines:
Stephen O'Donnell is set to miss out on Saturday after suffering a shoulder injury in last Friday's League Cup quarter-final win over Dundee United.
Kettlewell confirmed the right-back has not trained all week but said the injury is "definitely not as bad as we first feared".
The Well boss wants the type of challenge that resulted in O'Donnell's injury to be "outlawed" from football.
A crowd of 8,327 watched the Lanarkshire side set up a League Cup semi-final against Rangers, and Kettlewell hopes that memorable night can entice many back to Fir Park.
Reflecting on the last-eight win over United, Kettlewell said the evening was "magical in terms of the atmosphere".
"About 6,000 Motherwell fans were in here on Friday, I'd love us to get close to that on Saturday and try and keep that," the manager added.
And Kettlewell confirmed defensive duo Johnny Koutroumbis and Shane Blaney are edging closer to returning.

The 23-year-old has made two appearances for the Fir Park club since his return.
'Adrenaline still sky high as Well seal semi spot'published at 14:14 24 September 2024

Jenna Thomson Fan writer
The adrenaline is still sky high and reality hasn't fully set in yet, but the Well are going to Hampden!
The game against Dundee United is by far one of the best games I have ever attended - not just because of the result, but because of the crowd and the performance on the park.
Although, the result did help.
Over 8,000 fans at Fir Park for a game not involving the Old Firm is something we do not see and I'm hoping the result will encourage people to come back.
Right now, the league is no longer my biggest worry with a semi-final against Rangers on the way.
Although they certainly won't make it easy for us, I would rather we played Rangers than Celtic or Aberdeen.
It feels exciting being a Motherwell fan again, especially now we have players returning from injury and with some luck more will be more available by November.
All is well in Lanarkshire. It's starting to really feel like this could be a memorable season.
'Please don't dink it' - Miller on son Lennon's winning penaltypublished at 09:58 24 September 2024

Although Lee Miller knew son Lennon would be "the calmest person" at Fir Park when he stepped up to take his match-winning penalty on Friday, the former striker said the quarter-final tie was still "the most nervous" he has ever been at a game.
The teenage midfielder's stoppage-time spot kick secured a dramatic win over Dundee United, sending Motherwell through to the last four to face Rangers at Hampden.
Speaking on the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast, ex-Hearts and Aberdeen forward Miller revealed his son had planned to 'Panenka' his penalty.
Needless to say, Miller was delighted to instead see the midfielder dispatch low to the left, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to spark wild scenes.
"I could hardly watch to be honest," Miller said. "But I knew he'd be the calmest person in the stadium.
"All I could think was 'please score, please don't dink it, please score, please don't dink it'. So to see it go in... I'm so proud of what he's achieved so far in his career and it's just going from strength to strength.
"I said to him after the game: 'How are you? Were you nervous and stuff?'. And he said he was fine, but he was thinking of dinking the keeper up to the last step."

'Not a classic but we'll take it'published at 12:19 22 September 2024
12:19 22 September 2024
We asked for your views on Motherwell's dramatic 2-1 win over Dundee United in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals.
Here's what some of you said:
Angus: Tense. Not a classic but we'll take it! Cracking goal and Moses Ebiye proved his worth again when he came in. I wonder if Stuart Kettlewell will go for playing both up top at some point. As for Lennon Miller, a class act. What other 18-year-old scores a penalty at home and then tells his team mates to calm down! Scotland star in the making.
Col: It isn't often Motherwell provide a performance in front of an expectant home crowd but tonight they did. Earlier this year we were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by a Morton team superior in every way. It looks like we have learned from that experience. Tonight we were hungry, decisive and played with a real confidence. Could be a good season.
James: Fantastic result. Not a great first half, great game in the second. Created some real chances, should have put the game to bed before they scored. Substitutions made a difference, showing we have built a decent squad. Superb to have made a semi-final. Respect to the manager and the club to make the effort to make the game a spectacle.
William: Absolutely brilliant night under the lights at Fir Park. Not the best game I've ever been at, but it was engrossing. Both sets of fans made a great atmosphere.
Ian: Great crowd and in the first half I feared that it would be the same old story of not turning up under the floodlights, as we were wasteful with the ball and never really got going in the first half - until that amazing strike. Different team in the second half, and arguably should have been two up early on. Great play from super sub Moses for the pen.
Walter: A tight but well-deserved victory for a club that's working so hard to be at the centre of its community. After a summer of uncertainty, the team epitomised the industry and commitment we need to be successful.

Lennon Miller was the match-winner for Motherwell at Fir Park
"I knew that I was going to score and I backed myself."
Lennon Miller showed admirable confidence and composure to convert the stoppage-time penalty that sent Motherwell into the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals.
That nerve is all the more impressive at the age of 18.
"I think I had more beads of sweat on my brow than he had," joked manager Stuart Kettlewell after the 2-1 win over Dundee United at Fir Park.
"Nothing really surprises me with him, I’ve got so much trust that he picks the ball up, spots it and puts it in the back of the net."
Miller made his Motherwell debut six days after his 16th birthday and is now just two games away from his 50th appearance.
He scored twice for the club last season and is on that mark already this term.
Earlier this month, the midfielder shone on his competitive debut for the Scotland Under-21s with a goal and two assists in a win over Malta.
"It's obviously a big moment," Miller said of his penalty winner. "But for me it was what I do in training every day.
"I never get too high and I never get too low and it's just carried on onto the pitch.
"It's probably helping me in these moments and hopefully there's many more moments like that to come."

Moses Ebiye won the late penalty decider scored by Lennon Miller
Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell had named an unchanged side for their Premier Sports Cup quarter-final against Dundee United despite Saturday's league defeat in Aberdeen.
That meant sticking with Zach Robinson up front despite taking his total to four for the season after back-to-back goalscoring cameos off the bench.
It looked like it was a strategy playing into United's hands as the visitors forced the hosts to play long, with Robinson all too often outmuscled by former Fir Park centre-back Declan Gallagher and Ross Graham.
However, it paid off on the stroke of half-time as the summer arrival from Wimbledon broke his season's duck in spectacular fashion.
It looked like that would be enough to secure victory until striker Louie Moult stunned his former side in a hectic finish lapped up by an impressive crowd of more than 8,000.
Ebiye, though, was to prove the super sub again to win the penalty that handed much-heralded 18-year-old midfielder Lennon Miller the chance to again show his immense promise and cool head from the spot.

It was a team performance rather than one of individual brilliance for Motherwell, but considering Lennon Miller is still only 18, his match-winning penalty is worthy of the man of the match award in their Premier Sports Cup quarter-final win over Dundee United.
