Kaide Gordon has been recalled from his season-long loan spell with Norwich City by parent club Liverpool.

The 20-year-old, who can play as a winger or attacking midfielder, made 10 appearances in the Championship, scoring one goal in a 4-0 home win over Hull City in October.

Gordon arrived on loan from Anfield on deadline day in August 2024 but started just one game and played 177 minutes in total for the Canaries.

"All at the club thank Kaide for his effort and commitment while part of the Norwich City squad," the club said on its website, external.

Gordon has made seven senior appearances for Liverpool since arriving on Merseyside from Derby County in 2021, netting once in an FA Cup third round tie against Shrewsbury in January of the following year.

Meanwhile, Norwich Under-21s defender Lucien Mahovo has signed a contract extension until 2028 with the option of a further year.

The 19-year-old joined in the summer from Notts County but is yet to make a first-team appearance.

Motherwell have signed goalkeeper Archie Mair on loan from Norwich City after Krisztian Hegyi was recalled by West Ham.

Mair, 23, has had six loan spells in England after joining Norwich from Aberdeen in 2019 and goes straight into the starting XI against Hibernian.

The former Scotland under-21 international has yet to make an appearance for the first team at Carrow Road.

Hegyi's spell ends after just two appearances in the League Cup group stage.

Matthew Connolly, 21, has also been recalled by Motherwell from his loan spell at East Kilbride and is on the bench at Easter Road.

  3. Sutton's predictions: Norwich v Brightonpublished at 10:45 11 January

Chris Sutton's predictions with Billy Bob Thornton

BBC Sport football expert Chris Sutton has made his predictions for all 32 FA Cup third round games and given his verdict on who will make it into round four.

For this week's matches he is up against actor and musician Billy Bob Thornton, who is a Liverpool fan.

    Sutton's prediction: 0-2

What a win for Johannes Hoff Thorup's Norwich at the weekend. It harked back to the Daniel Farke era, with us scoring two stoppage time goals to beat Frank Lampard's Coventry.

The guy who got them both, Amankwah Forson, has had a difficult start to his Norwich career, but he took them brilliantly.

The issue my old club have is that Ashley Barnes has gone back to Burnley, leaving Josh Sargent as their only recognised striker.

Sargent has been injured this season and has only played 12 Championship games, which is less than half, so it is a gamble to rely on him to stay fit.

I'd love to say Norwich will win this, but I actually think Brighton will go through.

They could do with a victory too because, although they performed really well against Arsenal, they have not won for eight games.

It pains me to say this, but I am going with the Seagulls to take out the Canaries.

    Billy's prediction: 0-2

BBC Radio Norfolk has learned that Norwich City are in talks with a view to completing a deal to sign winger Matej Jurasek from Slavia Prague.

The 21-year-old has made one international appearance for the Czech Republic and there is confidence on both sides a deal can be done.

Jurasek has played in both the Champions and Europa Leagues for Slavia, with whom he has won the Czech top-flight title for the past two seasons.

He made his international debut in a friendly against Armenia in March 2024.

Earlier today we told you that Canaries keeper Angus Gunn has prevented the least amount of goals among the Championship keepers this season, according to a statistic from Opta.

When asked if you felt like Gunn needed to be replaced or if there's something else to blame for the goals conceded, here's what you had to say.

James: From what I have seen this season, he is the best we have.

However, he's not the world class keeper some of my fellow fans think he is.

The defence overall is very weak in my view so he can't be held totally to blame.

Paul: I don't think Angus Gunn has been good this season!

He's an ok keeper but nothing special and looks a little lightweight, to be honest.

He stays on his line a lot and doesn't command the area at corners.

Our back-up isn't great either, so yes, I would be looking for a new keeper this January.

Wendy: We should let him go, he is not good enough.

Does not save enough shots or penalties.

Jeremy: I think Angus Gunn should stay as he is still a good goalkeeper so I think Norwich City still need him.

Andy: Some of the Keystone Cops style defending in front of him hasn't helped!

Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup at press conference

Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Throup has been speaking to the press ahead of the Canaries' FA Cup third round tie at home to Brighton on Saturday (15:00 GMT).

He spoke about the Football Association suspended City's Borja Sainz for six games and fined him £12,000 after he admitted spitting at Sunderland's Chris Mepham in the match on December 21, 2024.

Here are some key points from the press conference:

    • On Sainz ban: "It's a lot of games, but when you behave like that you have to expect to be suspended."

    • Thorup said: "When you are dealing with inexperienced players in their best season ever it comes with a responsibility that there will be a different approach from the opposition. It's clear he's found that hard to deal with."

    • Thorup on second viewing of incident: "There's an argument between them and he (Sainz) runs past and there's a movement towards him (Mepham). It should never happen again."

    • The head coach says Sainz "definitely stepped over the line."

    • In other news, striker Josh Sargent is in contention to play against Brighton. He has been absent since November after undergoing surgery on a groin injury.

  7. Should Canaries say bye to Gunn or do numbers lie?published at 11:25 10 January

Canaries keeper Angus Gunn has been ranked bottom of the pile in the Championship for expected goals prevented so far this season.

According to an Opta statistic looking at all second-tier keepers to play 1,000 minutes or more this season, the Scotland international has conceded at least four more goals than he should have.

The metric subtracts the number of goals conceded by a keeper (in Gunn's case - 23) from his expected goals faced (where the relative shot quality of each on-target attempt is calculated and totalled; for Gunn it's 18.3).

That gives him an 'expected goals prevented' of -4.8 - a minus figure means the keeper has conceded more goals than he would have expected to.

Gunn's figure is the worst of any Championship stopper measured. Just above him is Derby keeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom with -3.4 goals prevented, while at the opposite end of the table is Stoke City's Viktor Johansson on 13.5 prevented goals.

Do you think the Canaries need a new keeper if they are to get closer to the promotion race?

Has Gunn struggled as much as these numbers suggest - or is it a case of lies, damn lies and statistics?

Or are there other factors that contribute to Gunn's low score?

Let us know what you think right here.

Goalkeeper Vicente Reyes and forward Ken Aboh have returned to Norwich City from their respective loan spells at League One clubs Cambridge United and Stevenage.

Reyes made 23 appearances in all competitions for the U's, keeping five clean sheets, but he has been recalled by the Canaries.

It was his second loan spell away from Norwich having spent the final three months of last season with Forest Green Rovers as they were relegated to the National League.

Aboh, 20, featured seven times for Stevenage, scoring one goal in a 4-0 EFL Trophy win at Burton Albion last month.

He is heading back to Carrow Road to link up with the club's Under-21 squad.

Norwich City match-winner Amankwah Forson said he was excited after his two injury time goals earned his side an improbable 2-1 win over Coventry on Saturday.

Forson, 22, had not scored for the Canaries since his summer move from RB Salzburg before the weekend but says his brace was down in part to continuing to believe in his ability.

"I'm really, really excited - really happy for this moment because we needed it as we were already [1-0] down," the Ghanaian international told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"This one is an amazing feeling for the club, I'm really happy for that because it brings a win and for the fans also, it makes everybody happy.

"It hasn't been easy honestly but as a football player, you know your time will come, you just need to stay focused, make it happen.

"When your time comes you just need to grab it. In football anything can happen, I can't forget this moment."

  11. 'These are moments you enjoy' - Thoruppublished at 18:48 4 January

Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup spoke to BBC Radio Norfolk after two stoppage-time goals from Amankwah Forson earned the Canaries a 2-1 win against Coventry.

"I've praised it before this season, I'm really pleased with the mentality and the team spirit of the young guys here – they keep on fighting, keep believing, keep chasing a goal," Thorup said.

"They did it last week [to beat Luton] and against QPR here at home [to draw], and they did it again today.

"So of course that is the positive side, but the more negative one is that we need to see how we can avoid being 1-0 down in a game that we dominate - but that is probably for tomorrow, not today.

"When you work in football every day and spend so many hours in it, then of course moments like today are the moments you have to celebrate and really enjoy."

Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has been speaking to the press ahead of the Canaries' Championship encounter with Coventry City on Saturday (15:00 GMT).

On Friday it was confirmed that winger Lewis Dobbin has joined City on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season, following news that striker Ashley Barnes has left the club and rejoined promotion hopefuls Burnley.

Here are some of the key points from today's media conference:

    • Midfielder Anis Ben Slimane suffered an ankle ligament injury at Luton and will be out for "four to six weeks".

    • The head coach says he expects news of a potential FA charge for Borja Sainz to come later on Friday. Sainz was involved in an incident at the Sunderland game on 21 December 2024.

    • Thorup on Dobbin signing: "He can also play as a '9' for us and he's a good runner. He can run in behind".

    • More on Dobbin: "I think he's best when he is on the left and can dribble in and shoot. He will be in the squad tomorrow (Saturday)".

    • Thorup on Barnes' departure: "He actually wanted to stay but he wanted more clarity on game time and what he can expect. From a club perspective we could use him but we have to accept his situation - but from his perspective, his contract runs out this summer".

    • Thorup says Norwich won't look to replace Barnes but that the club are looking at potential offensive recruits during the January transfer window.

You can listen to full live commentary of Norwich City v Coventry City with BBC Radio Norfolk on FM and DAB, coverage starts at 14:00 GMT on Saturday.
