Rangers manager Philippe Clement has been speaking to the media before Sunday's first derby match of the season against Celtic.

Here are the key points from his press conference:

    • Deadline day signing Nedim Bajrami will not be available to face Celtic as his paperwork was not cleared in time. Fellow new arrival Neraysho Kasanwirjo is available but Clement highlighted that the Dutch defender has only trained once with his new team-mates.

    • Long-term absentee Ridvan Yilmaz is the only injury absentee, with Oscar Cortes back in full training.

    • Rangers have undertaken "a massive rebuild" this summer, with 16 players from last season having been moved on and a couple more could yet follow.

    • There is no change to Ianis Hagi's situation despite the Romania international remaining at the club after the transfer deadline. Clement says he will not be involved in the squad going forward.

    • There is "a negative perception" about Rangers at the moment following the Champions League exit and the delay to Ibrox rebuilding works, but a good result at Celtic Park on Sunday can help change that.

    • Thinks Rangers have been handed a "challenging" Europa League draw - tougher than some of the Champions League draws - but says it's a great challenge for the players.

  4. 'Good boost' or 'won't enhance the squad'?published at 15:05 31 August

    Your views

We asked for your views on deadline day signing Neraysho Kasanwirjo. The 22-year-old defender joins from Feyenoord on a season-long loan deal, with Rangers having the option to make the transfer permanent next summer.

Here's what you had to say on the move:

Finlay: The signing will give a good boost for Saturday. We know he is a player with good experience from a club like Feyenoord. I hope he is able to produce some good plays and boost our rebooted squad a bit further. These are the exact players we should go after.

JB: I think he'll be an absolutely brilliant signing for the Gers. It's what we have been crying out for. Not marquee but genuine quality. A few more of this ilk please and we'll be on to a treble and Bilbao. Quality. Let's go.

Stephen: Won't be an enhancement to the squad.

Mark: Another possible one for the future. Only 22, so could be a good find. Hopefully he can adapt to the physicality of the Scottish game. Nothing to lose with a loan option. Beefs the squad going forward.

  5. 'Brutal draw' - but 'this is what you want in Europe'published at 10:02 31 August

    your views graphic

We asked for your views on Rangers' Europa League draw.

Here's what some of you said:

Murray: I don't fancy our chances. We'll see how good Rangers are after the game against Celtic at the weekend.

Ross: I don't think it would matter who we got, with the current squad and performance level, all ties are difficult, any results will be a bonus.

Ali: Need massive improvements and better style of play if we are going to compete with Spurs and Man United.

Matt: Tough but exciting draw, going into this with hope more than expectation, but let's see 'Thursday night Rangers' again.

Ralph: Every game will be tough for Rangers, home and away. European games are so different from domestic matches and if Rangers can get some points on the board early on then maybe a decent run can happen.

Peter: Two great English teams, it will be tough but you never know, the rest will be not too tough, you want to play decent teams and the draw has done that for us.

Sally: Great for the fans to watch some really good clubs, it’s unlikely Rangers will proceed to the next stage. The money they make hopefully will go into the next transfer window.

Kevin: Tough draw, but if the squad can be strengthened and a few consistent performances we can make the play-off at least.

Derek: It’s a great draw, some really exciting games to look forward to, all good teams so will be difficult but these are the kind of games that fans thrive on.

Stephen: Unbelievable draw, we have manged to pull a more glamorous set of fixtures than if we were in the Champions League. Unbelievable!

Stephen: Happy with the draw, the Man United and Spurs games obviously stand out, our home form will be the key if we can get out of it, it’ll be very difficult but we might just qualify.

Robbie: A tougher draw than I would have preferred but some great games to look forward to and a guaranteed warm welcome for the Spurs manager! I can’t see us making top eight with that draw, however, home wins against USG and Bucharest married with a few other positive results should see us through in the middle bracket.

Willie: Excellent draw, this is what you want from European nights.

Andrew: That draw is harder than Celtic's Champions League draw!

Rab: A brutal draw for Rangers.

Ian: No way we will advance from that draw, we're nowhere near that level, but at the very least there'll be some fantastic games to look forward to, as long as it's not too embarrassing!

"Rangers is the right move for me at this point in my career," says Nedim Bajrami as the midfielder joins the club on a long-term deal.

The 25-year-old signs from Italian club Sassuolo and he is "delighted to join a club the size of Rangers".

"They are a club which is known throughout the world, who have won a lot of trophies and competed in a European final in recent years," he told club media.

"I have had some good conversations with the manager and I believe Rangers is the right move for me at this point in my career.

"I look forward to meeting all of my new team-mates and fans in the near future."

Manager Phillipe Clements says the Albania international is a player he has "kept a close eye on for a period of time".

“Many of our supporters will have watched in the European Championships, as well as playing in Serie A last season.

“Nedim is a good age, but someone who also has experience of playing in big games and we are glad he has decided Rangers are the right club for him at this point in his career.”

Neraysho Kasanwirjo will be a "big asset" for Rangers, says manager Philippe Clement after securing the defender on a season-long loan from Feyenoord.

The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Rapid Vienna, becomes Clement's 10th summer signing.

"We are thrilled to welcome Neraysho to the football club," Clement told club media.

"He can play in a number of defensive positions and will be a good option for the squad with the domestic and European commitments we have this campaign.

"He is looking forward to starting the next chapter in his career and we are pleased Neraysho has decided to join Rangers."

Kasanwirjo says the move, which includes an option for Rangers to make the deal permanent next summer, is a "good step" in his career.

He added: "I’m very excited to join the club and play for the fans. I spoke with the coach who had a good feeling, and the most important thing for me is to play and help the team as much as I can."

Rangers forward Tom Lawrence began his career at Man United

Tom Lawrence is relishing Rangers' Europa League campaign as Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou gets set for a reunion with his old foes.

Philippe Clement's side were drawn against Spurs, Manchester United, Lyon, Olympiacos, Union SG, Malmo, Steaua Bucharest and Nice.

The north London outfit, French club Lyon, Belgian outfit Union and Romanians Steaua will travel to Glasgow, while the Ibrox side will head for Old Trafford, Conference League champions Olympiacos, Swedish side Malmo and Nice of France.

Former Celtic boss Postecoglou said: "Exciting. It's good to be a part of some good games.

"I am sure I will get a warm reception at Ibrox and they'll look forward to seeing me."

Rangers forward Lawrence, meanwhile, is looking forward to a return to Manchester, having come up through the youth ranks at United.

He told Rangers' official website: "We are excited by the draw and it will bring us some good tests.

"I have been a Manchester United fan since I was a young boy, so it is nice to come up against them.

"It is always exciting going back to the club you support. When I think back on my time at Manchester United I have loads of great memories and they paved the way for my career.

"The day I made my debut for them against Hull City was an unbelievable moment for me. I am looking forward to going back to Old Trafford and this is a test in the group we are looking forward to."

  11. Barron excited for his first Old Firm derbypublished at 15:29 30 August

    Connor BarronImage source, SNS

Connor Barron has stressed the need for Rangers to take their chances at Celtic Park if he is to triumph in his Old Firm debut on Sunday.

The midfielder, who joined from Aberdeen in the summer told Rangers TV: "I'm really excited.

"There is always a lot of talk around the games, but it’s also important as a player to realise what the team can do, and you can go out with the focus and drive that if you do your job, you can come away with the victory.

"That always has to be the aim at this football club, no matter what team you’re playing against, and nothing changes on Sunday.

"If we all stick to the game-plan, we know what we can do. Defensively, we need to get at them, and when we’re on the ball then we need to be composed.

"We saw last weekend [6-0 win over Ross County] when we take our chances, and that was something we talked about in the first few games of the season because we could have been winning by more.

"Hopefully we can bring that on Sunday and get the win."

  12. 'We badly need defensive cover... and another striking option'published at 15:22 30 August

    your views graphic

We asked for your views on where Rangers still need to strengthen and what deals you would like completed before the transfer window closes.

Here's what some of you said:

Steve: I'm really concerned about this transfer window and beyond if I'm being honest. I have a feeling that we won't buy any more players and we'll be extremely thin on the ground all over the pitch. We badly need defensive cover and a decent midfielder. Without that as a bare minimum we will struggle, especially with our injury prone players.

Alan: Rangers need to sign players who can improve the first team. I'd like to see replacements who have a track record of staying injury free and playing their football at a high level, one centre-back, one attacking-midfielder and a striker.

Sally: Rangers need another creative midfielder and a striker. If Cyriel Dessers gets injured, Danilo is not fit enough to take his place. Dujon Sterling needs to be a replacement for James Tavernier, hence the need for another midfield player.

Alex: I still think we are lacking someone creative who can pick the ball up and run straight at the opposition's defence, I'd love to see Ianis Hagi take this opportunity, but think that's unlikely. We need someone here and also a physical central defender who can win balls in the air and give an attacking threat when we have corners.

Finlay: We are linked with many players both in and out, we need to sign players who can show the rest of the team what a successful player plays like. I hope we sign Nemid Bajrami for it will be a signing which will show the quality we need to catch up to Celtic. Hopefully we get a signing that can help them reach that potential.

Kenny: We either need Nicolas Raskin fit or another centre-midfielder. We either need Tom Lawrence to be consistent or another number 10. We also need Rabbi Matondo to be consistent or another left winger. We either need John Souttar to improve massively or we need a new centre-back. We also hope Danilo is back to full fitness or we need another striker. Our goalkeeper is fine though.

Fraser: What Rangers need is a settled squad free from injury, apart from that a couple of quality strikers wouldn't go amiss, I’m not feeling too confident about Sunday.

Peter: We obviously need another striking option. I hope Danilo is not injury prone, as we've had our share of them over the years. I would like to keep Matondo and I hope he can keep producing that kind of form from Saturday’s game for the rest of the season. It would be a bonus if we can get a big midfielder in, I don't think we need Lawrence Shankland from Hearts.

John: Philippe Clement should have signed a goalscorer instead of wasting whatever funds he had on some of the signings he has made. I think Clement is out of his depth and Rangers are too big of a club for him.

Elaine: Another centre-back would be my preference. I still think we need a centre-forward because if Cyriel Dessers gets injured, I don't believe we have anyone who could take his place currently. Bring through Bailey Rice and maybe Zak Lovelace and save some cash.

Ross: Signing a few players is needed now we've leaked all of the team to England, especially if Todd Cantwell goes. I still think Shankland should be a target and I don't know why we haven't tried harder to sign someone like him. A better Scott Wright wouldn't go amiss either.

  13. What awaits Rangers in Europa League?published at 13:43 30 August

    Andrew Petrie
    BBC Sport Scotland

    Rangers' opponents

So, a pretty tough draw for Rangers. Let's go through it.

Tottenham at home. Ange Postecoglou returns to Glasgow. The former Celtic boss lost his first Old Firm derby at Ibrox, courtesy of a Filip Helander header, but he found things against his biggest rivals pretty smooth sailing after that.

In the 10 following derbies, he lost two, drew two and won six - including three victories at Ibrox. Can Philippe Clement prove tougher opposition?

It's another English giant to round off Pot 1 - Manchester United. The two sides met in pre-season at Murrayfield, but haven't faced off competitively since 2010 in the Champions League.

That game was settled at Ibrox by an 87th-minute Wayne Rooney penalty. In total, they've met four times in Europe with Rangers yet to beat United.

In Pot 2, it is a home tie against French side Lyon and an away fixture at last season's Conference League winners Olympiacos.

Rangers and Lyon met in the Europa League group stage in the 2021-22 season before the Ibrox side went on an incredible run to the final.

However, it was Lyon who topped Group A by a massive eight points - three of which were picked up in a 2-0 win at Ibrox.

From Pot 3, Union Saint-Gilloise are also a familiar team. Rangers played them in Champions League qualifying at the start of the 22-23 season, where the Ibrox side roared back from a 2-0 first-leg defeat to win 3-0 at home and secure passage to the play-offs.

Malmo beat Rangers home and away in Champions League qualifying the previous season previously, while Steaua Bucharest are the current Romanian champions and find themselves in the Europa League after defeat by Sparta Prague in the Champions League qualifiers.

Finally, there's Nice. They'll present a tough task. They finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season and have spent around €20m upgrading their squad this summer.

  14. What do you make of Rangers' Europa League draw?published at 12:28 30 August

    Have your say

Well, that is quite the draw for Rangers in the Europa League.

The Ibrox side will face Tottenham, Lyon, Union Saint-Gilloise and Steaua Bucharest at home.

And the away trips for Rangers are Manchester United, Olympiacos, Malmo and Nice.

What do you make of the draw - is it tougher than you would have liked?

Which games do you think you could take points from? Where are you looking forward to travelling to?
