Simon: Unequivocally yes. Unlike managers since Tim Sherwood, Ange Postecoglou has not had Harry Kane, and Son Heung-min is no longer the player he was. To have lost these two, but still have so many players scoring is a great success. He must do more to prevent recurring injuries and the club must strengthen our defence; then trophies will come.

Peter: Definitely a yes from me. The results will improve when Ange has a squad that has more depth and not so easily decimated by a few injuries. There has been enough signs of what could be if we had a regular full team of first-teamers with a decent bench. No return to turgid, robotic football by numbers please!

Colin: Absolutely yes because he is one-and-a-half years into a five year project. Look at Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, both good managers who stamped their ethos on a club and, after being given time, came good. We have to stick with a manager and see it out and Ange is so honest and different we just need to let him do his thing for a few more years.

Anthony: I firmly believe that Ange has made a huge positive impact at Spurs. They are back to playing attacking football and, although they sometimes concede too many goals, they play football that the punters want to see. Give him time. Too many people want instant glory, rather than playing the longer game. I believe it will come.

Justin: I believe the coach has improved things but the players at the club have not been. The team is weaker then six or seven years ago. That is down to the hierarchy spending little and what they have bought did not work out for example Tanguy Ndombele. We cannot keep changing manager on average every 18 months. Again, a hierarchy issue.

Laurie: As a fan of 61 years, I love the Ange approach and style of play, after the dire offerings under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte. The squad has been decimated by injuries yet the style of play has not changed and the players are still playing for the manager and the club. It would be futile to change the manager so let him stay until the end of the season and see what we have to show for his efforts.

  2. 'Not the man to take us forward' - the case against Postecogloupublished at 09:40 3 January

Dan: Ange Postecoglou hasn't improved the team. Yes we've had bad luck with injuries - but we can't hide behind that. Our defence is too leaky with a fully fit squad, and the fact that we're threadbare sits not only with the club's recruitment policy but also with the manager who should be signing off on these players. I hate that we only have one way to play, with no plan B, and that we seem to have forgotten how to shut up shop and maintain a lead. I don't think Ange is the man to take us forward but the reality is I don't know who will want to take us on. For me, it's time for a change of manager and a new chairman.

Nick: The back line is like a sieve - again. Players shine but all too briefly and then they fade. The league table doesn't lie.

Chris: The main aim for any manager is to win matches. Pundits and supporters have all argued that Ange needs to be more pragmatic in his approach. He has refused to do that, arguing that he will not change. Can a teacher do that, a policeman, a mechanic, nurse or doctor? No. In lots of professions that means one thing - the sack.

Toby: No, he hasn't improved us. Jose Mourinho had slightly better points per game. And while we might be the leagues entertainers, it's not entertaining being a Spurs fan. But that won't change until Daniel Levy and co are out.

Simon: Ange is a nightmare. His training techniques and style of play is injuring the players, and I'm fed up with losing week after week as a result of his crazy tactics.

Martin: If losing games and suggesting "are you not entertained?" means improvement, then I think not.

  5. Has Postecoglou improved Tottenham?published at 17:38 2 January

In April 2021, Jose Mourinho was shown the Tottenham exit door in the week of the Carabao Cup final - after 58 Premier League games.

This weekend, current Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou will take charge of his 58th Premier League match and, with the club 11th in the Premier League, his future is uncertain.

After more conservative approaches under Mourinho, Antonio Conte and, briefly, Nuno Espirito Santo, Postecoglou's emphasis on attacking, high intensity football has led to Spurs being one of the league's great entertainers. Their fans have celebrated 115 league goals under the Australian at an average of 1.98 per match.

However, the 89 goals conceded in those 58 games - averaging out at 1.53 per game - have contributed to scrutiny over his open style of play.

    So what do you think?

Has Postecoglou made Tottenham better since arriving in summer 2023 - or is the club once again in need of a change to move forward?

Tottenham supporters want one simple thing - to win a major trophy.

The problem is that they now feel further away than ever, given a drastic downturn in results across December, a month where they have suffered a lot of injuries.

The next few games could be pivotal in keeping the season alive under an increasingly under-fire manager Ange Postecgolou.

A match at home to Newcastle is followed by the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool over the coming days.

The Europa League also resumes this month with Spurs looking to avoid the play-off round and qualify for the knockout stages.

Any win would give the Australian manager time and the external support that he needs.

And, by stabilising results, it would convince the club to dip into the transfer market - where Spurs are expected to be active - and back him.

However, a backdrop of one win in seven matches makes signing players more difficult. The dip in form has coincided with around 10 players being ill, injured or suspended for the past three matchday squads.

Alongside frustrations on the pitch, chairman Daniel Levy is also facing criticism from some sections of the fan base.

Only positive short-term results will ease the pressure and keep the Levy-Postecoglou partnership running.

However, the fact Tottenham have not won a trophy since 2008 still looms over this club and only glory will truly satisfy supporters, who are growing more and more frustrated.

  7. 'Dynamic' Marmoush at 'a different level'published at 15:30 2 January

Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush is "going to be a superstar", says German football expert Raphael Honigstein.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League after an impressive first half of the campaign that has seen him score 18 goals and provide 12 assists in just 24 games.

It is form not too dissimilar to that of his international team-mate Mohamed Salah, drawing understandable parallels between the two.

"A really dynamic, wide forward who can play through the middle - he is not really a winger and he is not really a centre-forward; he is in between," Honigstein told the BBC Euro Leagues podcast.

"Some people have compared him to his compatriot Mohamed Salah. He is perhaps not quite as tricky and explosive but his finishing is incredible. He is one of those players that came to Germany when he was 18 and for six years and you think 'OK, interesting player but probably not really going to set the world alight,' then suddenly this season he has absolutely exploded to a different level.

"It is to the point we are talking 60-70m euros, maybe 80m euros, in the transfer market. There will be a big move ahead for him and that is why he is one to watch because it is very unlikely Eintracht Frankfurt will stick with him. Some big clubs will come in for him and, if he continues on the same path, he is going to be a superstar.

"He will be a great buy for whoever gets him."

French football journalist Julien Laurens agreed, saying: "He can probably get even better because he is still young. He has had to wait for his career to click and now he has got that confidence and momentum.

"If he plays with better players in big clubs with better coaching, then there is even more to come from him."

  8. 'Build up squad depth' and 'develop a reliable Plan B'published at 12:50 1 January

We asked what Tottenham's New Year resolutions should be.

Here are some of your replies:

    Thomas: Buy a centre-back ASAP.

Shaun: Buy three or four players minimum to fill the voids left by injury and form.

Toby: Just sign some players to build up the squad depth. This injury crisis is forcing us to play a weakened squad every game. We need more players as soon as possible, maybe some more experienced players since we have lots of good prospects for the future.

Pete: New owners please. It's 24 years of failure with no responsibility taken by the board. Take the money you've made and go now, please.

Frank: So many hamstring injuries - is there something wrong with training or players understanding how to avoid this? A New Year resolution for the medical team should be to sort this out.

Richard: Don't sit on a one-goal lead and buy a good goalkeeper.

Martin: Just as the England men's cricket team has learned to modify Bazball when the situation demands, Spurs need to develop a reliable Plan B to Angeball, to make them less predictable and give them options when all-attack and high line is not working.
