Julen Lopetegui's first home game in charge of West Ham United will be a pre-season fixture against Celta Vigo.

The Spanish side will travel to London Stadium to contest the 2024 Betway Cup on Saturday, 10 August.

It will be the final game of the Hammers' pre-season.

West Ham have submitted a £25m bid for Wolves defender Max Kilman - but that is expected to be rejected.

The 27-year-old has made 151 appearances across seven seasons at Molineux and Gary O'Neil is not actively looking to sell the player, who signed a contract to 2028 less than 12 months ago.

Kilman was an ever-present for Wolves last season, scoring twice in three games at the turn of the year.

  3. Which players have covered the most ground at Euro 2024?published at 14:55 19 June

Phil Foden in action for England against SerbiaImage source, Reuters

There has been much said and written about Phil Foden's display in England's 1-0 win over Serbia on Sunday, but stats from Uefa show he covered the second-greatest distance of any player during the first round of group matches at Euro 2024.

Only Serbia's Sergey Milinkovic-Savic (13.9km) covered more ground than Manchester City's Foden (13.2km), while England colleagues Declan Rice of Arsenal (12.9km) and Kieran Trippier of Newcastle United (12.3km) were fifth and eighth in the list respectively.

City's Bernardo Silva was seventh with a total of 12.7km in Portugal's 2-1 win over Czech Republic, while Czech captain Tomas Soucek of West Ham was 10th, covering 12.3km.

  4. Where will West Ham be after 10 games?published at 11:58 19 June

The fixtures for the new Premier League season are out and we asked you for your predictions on where West Ham United will be after 10 games.

Here is a selection of your comments:

Dave: 10th after 10. There will be a tricky transition to Lopetegui's way of playing - could go either way.

Martin: We had a very good core group of players last season. If we make the right additions we could get off to a great start. With better options to bring on and change games that we are struggling in, I predict we could get 19 points from the first 10 games and be sitting in the European places.

Mark: Too difficult to determine unless you look at all the other teams' first 10 games. But ninth would be good, especially after a new manager, new players and new tactics are in place.

Trevor: West Ham need to have good home form next season. Looking at the opening 10 games, they have both Manchester sides and Chelsea, along with Aston Villa in the first game and Ipswich. Away from London Stadium, we're playing four other London sides - Nottingham Forest away is our 10th game. I will be happy if we are sitting around mid-table, ninth to 11th, then.

  5. Wolves expecting Kilman offer from West Hampublished at 15:53 18 June

Wolves are expecting an offer from West Ham for their captain Maximilian Kilman.

BBC Sport understands the Hammers are interested in the 27-year-old centre-back - but it is yet to progress beyond that.

Wolves think West Ham will eventually push forward in their efforts to reunite Kilman with new boss Julen Lopetegui, who worked with the former England futsal international at Molineux.

Wolves are not actively looking to sell the player, who signed a contract to 2028 less than 12 months ago.

However, they are realistic enough to know if the proposed fee reaches the £45m being rumoured, it may force their hand.

Kilman played every minute of all 38 Premier League games for Wolves last season. Arsenal's William Saliba was the only other outfield player to achieve that feat.

  6. West Ham v Aston Villa - did you know?published at 15:11 18 June

Julen Lopetegui looks onImage source, PA Media

West Ham and Aston Villa will open their Premier League campaigns with a meeting at London Stadium on Saturday, 17 August.

Julen Lopetegui's new side have lost just one of their past 12 Premier League games against Villa (W6 D5), which was a 4-1 loss at Villa Park last season.

Villa are winless in their past nine Premier League away games against West Ham (D5 L4) since a 2-1 victory at Upton Park in April 2011.

The Hammers have won their opening Premier League match in just one of the past eight seasons (D1 L6), beating Newcastle 4-2 in 2021-22. They have lost their opening game in the Premier League more often than any other side (15).

Villa have lost their opening Premier League match in each of the past three seasons, conceding 10 goals in these games. They also lost the last time they faced West Ham in their first game, losing 1-0 at Upton Park in 2012-13.

One of the stranger quirks of the Premier League fixtures released on Tuesday is that West Ham United are not scheduled to play outside London in the top flight until 2 November.

The Hammers' first four away matches are against neighbours Crystal Palace, Fulham, Brentford and Tottenham.

It is not until their 10th scheduled fixture of the season, away at Nottingham Forest, that Julen Lopetegui's team will leave the capital for a Premier League match.

West Ham have had early journeys to Europe in each of the past three seasons but they will not take part in a European competition in 2024-25, meaning the streak of London fixtures could only be broken if they are drawn away in the early rounds of the Carabao Cup.

Julen Lopetegui's reign starts at home to Aston Villa, before fixtures against Crystal Palace and champions Manchester City complete the Hammers' August schedule.

Fellow London clubs Fulham, Chelsea and Brentford are all September opponents for West Ham, who go to Tottenham on 19 October.

Lopetegui will come up against his former club Wolves at home on 7 December, with the return game at Molineux on 1 April.

West Ham go to Southampton on Boxing Day and they will end the season with games against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town.

Fixtures for the Premier League opening weekend have been released.

Ipswich Town's 22 years away from the top flight will come to an end with a visit from Arne Slot's Liverpool, while fellow newly promoted sides Southampton and Leicester will visit Newcastle and welcome Tottenham respectively.

Elsewhere, champions Manchester City will begin their quest for a fifth Premier League title in a row by travelling to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in Enzo Maresca's first game in charge.

The games will take place between 16-19 August.

What should you look out for?

By chief football news reporter Simon Stone

    Matches around European games

This will be even more keenly assessed than usual given the four clubs in the Champions League and two in the Europa League will have eight first-phase games rather than six. Long trips before or after European games do not go down well with managers.

    Matches around internationals

There are international breaks in September, October, November and March. In Europe, the first three of those are for Nations League fixtures. World Cup qualifiers in Europe start in March 2025, though in South America and Asia they are being played in all four windows.

England managers tend not to be keen on blockbuster league matches immediately before a break and club bosses are equally unhappy at having to play key matches after them when so many players get back on Thursday or Friday.

    Festive fixtures

To allow for a mid-August start, there will not be a winter break this season. The Premier League has assured clubs they will not be asked to play twice in less than 60 hours at any point over Christmas and New Year. That rules out any club playing on 26 December also having a game on 28 December. There will be no Christmas Eve fixture in the 2024-25 season.

As the FA Cup third round has been moved from its traditional home on the first weekend of January to the second, it does seem there will be four rounds of fixtures over the festive period - starting on 21 December and ending on 5 January.

    New managers

Four Premier League clubs already have new managers - Fabian Hurzeler (Brighton), Enzo Maresca (Chelsea), Arne Slot (Liverpool) and Julen Lopetegui (West Ham) - with a fifth to come at Leicester. So that's a new era beginning at 25% of clubs before a ball has been kicked. Russell Martin will take charge of a top-flight game for the first time after Southampton's promotion.

  13. 'They know what their role is at the moment'published at 10:55 17 June

Conor Gallagher and Jarrod Bowen after England winImage source, Getty Images

West Ham's Jarrod Bowen and Chelsea's Conor Gallagher are "growing into" their England roles, according to former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The two midfielders were second-half substitutes in Sunday's 1-0 win over Serbia at Euro 2024, coming on at a time when Gareth Southgate's side were struggling to match Serbia, and both made instant impacts.

Gallagher added energy and intensity into the centre of the pitch, while Bowen created a chance for Harry Kane to score England's second goal, only for the captain to be denied by a superb save from Predrag Rajkovic.

"The game was screaming out for a change. Jarrod Bowen came on, it was a big moment for him coming on in a major tournament and straight away he created that chance for Harry Kane down the right-hand side," said Hart on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily.

"Conor Gallagher, I thought he was exceptional. He was everywhere, the energy he brought, the second balls and the fouls he won were so important in this victory.

"We just looked a little bit leggy and the distances between us and Serbia grew and we just lost control of the game. [Southgate] could have made the changes earlier, but when they came on they had a great impact."

Both players were included in the squad after playing integral roles for their clubs last season.

"Jarrod Bowen is just so direct, there is no thrills. He gets the ball, he wants to drive at defenders and hurt them and he did that straight away," added the ex-England number one.

"I think they [Gallagher and Bowen] know their places at the moment and it is a good place. They are growing into it. They will have aspirations of course, everyone has aspirations and wants to be on the pitch at the start of the game, but they know what their role is at the moment and they want to grab it, develop it and move with it and that is the strength of a really good squad."

  14. 'He's a young player from Brazil - what could go wrong?'published at 13:25 14 June

    Your views image

We asked for your thoughts on Luis Guilherme, West Ham's first signing under Julen Lopetegui, and whether it is a strong start to the summer transfer window for the Hammers.

Here are some of your views:

Alex: Yes he is young - but if he is good enough, he is old enough. It will work if we get enough new and young talent on board, get them playing together from the off, and also get a couple of more-experienced heads in to keep things calm. We need players who can come into the team and play now, not 'for the future' players. If we don't get it right, our future might be the Championship.

Lee: He needs a strong start, if that happens the fans will love him same as Kudus. This young lad could be anything - we just need to see.

Dave: I don’t know this young player. I'm not sure he will be at his best for this season, but young players are good. West Ham fans know we need to offload certain players and replace them with strong players at a good age. Hopefully the new manager knows the style he wants to play and gets some early business done to settle the squad.

Steve: He is just what we need. He is a young player from Brazil - what could go wrong?

Keith: Why buy another winger? What we need is a striker and at least two defenders. We need to sell all of the deadwood that we have at the club. I can think of at least five players who are not good enough to play for us in the Premier League.
