Scotland forward Lauren Davidson has left Glasgow City to sign for Norwegian side SK Brann.

Former City youth player Davidson returned to the club from Hibs in 2020 and become a first-team mainstay, netting 77 goals in 135 appearances.

The 22-year-old won the league title with City in 2021 and 2023 - when she was the SWPL top scorer - and played 12 times in the Women's Champions League, scoring twice.

Announcing her departure, the club said Davidson's "consistent quality, team spirit and heroics under pressure" make her a "City legend".

Davidson said: "From my debut in 2020 to scoring the 92nd-minute league winner at Ibrox, everything in between and everything since, it’s been a rollercoaster, but a time I’ll never forget.

"Over the years I have been lucky enough to work with amazing coaches, players and staff who have helped shape me into the player and person I am today and I have made some friends for life.

"I’ll be a forever fan, supporting the club from afar."

Head coach, and Davidson's former team-mate, Leanne Ross added: "Lauren has played a big part in the success achieved by the club over the years but will always be remembered for her 92nd-minute goal at Ibrox which secured the 2022/23 SWPL title.

"Lauren will be a massive loss to this team but everyone at Glasgow City is proud of the player she has become, and we all wish her the very best of success in her future career."

Elena Sadiku with SWPL trophyImage source, SNS

Elena Sadiku says her Celtic squad is already stronger than the title-winning side of last season.

Sadiku, who took charge of the Glasgow club following the departure of Fran Alonso back in January, guided them to their first ever SWPL title in dramatic fashion.

Since then, the Swede has made five signings to bolster her squad as they prepare for their title defence.

“I’d say the new signings are a different quality," the 30-year-old told CelticTV, external.

"I think the squad we're going to have this season is going to be stronger than last season, which you can see in training already.

"We had our first session earlier this week, and it was a really high intensity, even if it was supposed to be more like a 'start' to pre-season.

“But it’s going to bring a lot when it comes to the technical side, and we are going to be more consistent than last season."

  5. Ogilvie 'can't wait' to work with Bell after signing Aberdeen extensionpublished at 18:09 3 July

    Francesca OgilvieImage source, SNS

Francesca Ogilvie is excited by new boss Colin Bell's vision for Aberdeen after signing a two-year contract extension.

The left-sided midfielder was one of the first players to sign a semi-professional contract with the Dons back in 2022 and served as the club's vice-captain last term.

After Aberdeen's eighth-place finish in the SWPL, head coach Clinton Lancaster left the club this summer and has been replaced by 62-year-old Bell, who steered Eintracht Frankfurt to Champions League glory in 2015 and was most recently in charge of South Korea.

"I’m delighted to be here for another two years," Ogilvie, 22, told club media, external.

"After speaking to Colin and hearing his vision for Aberdeen I knew it was something I wanted to be part of.

"He’s ready to hit the ground running which is the attitude we need.

"He made it clear I am someone he wants to work with and he will help to get the best out of me. With his vast experience it’s a real positive for the entire squad.

"We know where we want to be and I can’t wait to get started."

Former captain Georgie Rafferty has taken the "really difficult decision" to leave Motherwell after a five-year stay.

The defender, 27, joined the newly-promoted Lanarkshire side in 2019 following a spell with Celtic but soon suffered a serious knee injury that ruled her out for two years.

During her time with Motherwell, the centre-back reached two Scottish Cup semi-finals, most recently in 2023.

"It's a really difficult decision to leave this summer," Rafferty said.

"I've been fortunate enough to represent the club for a few years and it's been extremely special, particularly getting to wear the armband on several occasions.

"I've come to a bit of a crossroads between my personal and football career and it feels the right time to move on to the next chapter in my footballing and personal career.

"The club has been a big part of my career and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to represent Motherwell on many occasions."

More than six weeks later, Amy Gallacher is still coming to terms with the enormity of her title-winning heroics.

The attacker scored the 90th-minute winner against Hibs on the final day of last season to secure Celtic's first title as they pipped Rangers on goal difference.

"Being able to celebrate the moment with all our families and as a team at Celtic Park, it’s a moment we had all dreamed of since the start of the season," the Scotland international told the Celtic View, external.

"It went by so quickly, though. If there was one thing, I wish I could relive it, but hopefully we can keep doing it in seasons to come.

"I still don’t think that feeling of scoring the last-minute goal to win the league has sunk in yet. Obviously I watch it back every day, but I’m not sure it will ever really sink in as a team.

"But it was a great moment. I don’t think it’ll ever top that in my career."

Gallacher, 25, insists Elena Sadiku's side won't rest on their laurels as they eye more glory.

"Being at Celtic, there is so much history here, so you want to write your own history," she added.

"To be the first team to win the league, no one will ever forget this team. So it’s just an incredible feeling to be a part of that."

  8. Rangers captain Docherty hails academy growthpublished at 12:25 3 July

    Nicola DochertyImage source, SNS

Nicola Docherty has praised the work of Rangers' youth academy in bringing through young talent.

The captain broke through the ranks herself and can't believe how far the women's side of the club has grown since then.

Kirsty Maclean, Jodi McLeary and Mia McAulay are among the young players who have broken through to the first team in recent seasons.

"The coaching that they are getting now is a credit to Rangers," defender Docherty told club media, external.

"They are giving the young girls opportunities to be young professional footballers because that is the end goal for them and it can actually happen now.

"If I was to look back on my career to say that I would be a professional footballer you would probably say no back then because it wasn't as big as it is now.

"To see that they can be that is huge."

  9. Lockwood eyes silverware as she seals City movepublished at 18:01 2 July

Katie LockwoodImage source, Glasgow City FC

New recruit Katie Lockwood will give Glasgow City's attack "a different dimension," says head coach Leanne Ross.

Attacking midfielder Lockwood, 26, has signed a two-year deal at City after helping Hearts finish third and reach the Scottish Cup final last season, earning herself a spot in the PFA Scotland team of the year.

The English ace spent the previous year with Hibs and has also played in Cyprus and Sweden.

"The rich history of the club and that expectation to win trophies was a big attraction so I want to push myself to win titles, trophies and hopefully experience the Champions League as well," Lockwood said of her City move.

Lockwood netted 16 goals in 26 Hearts appearances last season and Ross hopes she continues that "excellent" record.

She added: "While playing for Hibs and Hearts, Katie always caused us problems with her intelligent movement, creativity in possession and goalscoring threat.

"I admire the way she plays the game and believe she will add a different dimension to our attacking play for the season ahead."

The 19-year-old central defender joins striker Bayley Hutchison and midfielder Eilidh Shore in swapping Aberdeen for Edinburgh this summer.

"It's a dream come true for me and I'm really looking forward to it," Broadrick told club media, external.

"Ultimately where I see myself moving forward, this is my next step as a footballer.

"It's really nice to have some friendly faces around. It's a bit further from my home in Aberdeen so to have these girls who I've played right through the youth set-ups with, sometimes you don't get the opportunity to play with them again but I've been lucky enough that it's worked out for all three of us.

"This club is so ambitious, it's something that I've dreamt about and wanted so I'm really excited to make it happen."

Having previously spent time with Nottingham Forest, Powell joined Grant Scott's side last summer and quickly became a key member of the squad, providing 10 assists throughout the campaign.

"I’m delighted that Naomi has agreed to join us," manager Eva Olid told club media, external.

"As soon as we spoke, I felt a real connection about how she wanted to play football and our methodology.

"She was a real standout last season for Hibs and particularly caught my eye in the derby matches, with her quality not only in possession, but also out of it.

"Having had that season with Hibs to adjust to Scottish football, where she showed real moments of quality throughout, I have no doubt she will fit into our group seamlessly."

Celtic manager Elena Sadiku with SWPL trophyImage source, SNS

Celtic manager Elena Sadiku says leading her side to their first ever SWPL title was a "fairy tale".

The title race once again went to the final day of the SWPL season and after narrowly missing out the previous year, Celtic managed to go one better.

Sadiku only joined the Glasgow club in January following the departure of Fran Alonso.

Despite missing out on both cups, the Swede managed to grab the one trophy that had evaded Celtic for so long.

"To win the league at Celtic Park was an unbelievable moment," she told the Celtic View. , external

"I think this was a perfect end to a fairy tale almost. It just feels like it was meant to be.

"But it was just amazing to see all the fans being so excited and happy because they are a big part of the success and winning this trophy.

"To create history in several different ways, it just goes to show that this club is one which wants to write history.

    Jess BroadrickImage source, SNS

Hearts have signed defender Jess Broadrick following her exit from Aberdeen.

The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Edinburgh outfit after opting to move on from the Dons where she made 124 appearances and scored eight goals.

"It's no secret that with the huge loss of Georgia Hunter, we’re now short in the defensive area of the pitch," manager Eva Olid told club media, external.

"However, it was somewhere we’d identified that we'd like to strengthen prior to the window opening regardless.

"Jess has a lot of qualities which I like. She’s strong, fast and aggressive and at the age of 19, it’s rare to possess all of them so soon. Now we want her to be in this environment and go to the next level.

"She’s extremely versatile and again, for a player so young, that’s a rare attribute to have. She will add serious competition in all areas of our defensive third and I’m looking forward to working with her."

"Kayla is a fantastic young footballer, and her domestic form last season is something that attracted us to her," Olid said.

"Watching her at Motherwell, it's clear that she possesses real quality in possession and has a lot of energy out of possession. This equates to her having a lot of potential.

"She is capable of playing in a number of positions, which for someone so young, is rare. Despite her age, she has great domestic experience, which is a great thing for the team. Having joined the club in 2021, the 34-year-old lifted the club's first ever SWPL title in 2022 before suffering a serious knee injury.

With over 150 caps for her country, Ross brings a wealth of experience that she hopes will benefit Rangers in the new season.

"I am really happy here, obviously it has been a challenging couple of years for me personally through injury.

"Being able to combine all those styles of football and ultimately bring that here to this league and this team, I'm really excited about that.

"It's a new opportunity. A lot of young girls or even older women, you just think it's NWSL or overseas or my career is over but to be able to have this league, it creates new opportunities for people that maybe never got the opportunity before."
