Yeah it's slicks time right now. The track is looking the driest it has done all evening.

Max Verstappen breaches the 1:40 barrier with a fastest time of 1:39.156.

Peter: Lewis showing he still has it in the wet.

David: Good to see Lewis and Max leading the way in the changing conditions... And Lewis seems at home in that Ferrari, for once...

It is crowded out there at the minute, as Lewis Hamilton's just found out.

Meanwhile his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc goes fastest on the slick tyre with a 1:41.867.

Both Ferraris look like they're in a decent spot right now.

Lewis Hamilton tried to turn in probably thinking that Liam Lawson was going to get out of the way.

Oof, Lewis Hamilton almost goes into the back of Liam Lawson whilst on a hot lap.

Lewis had set purple first and second sectors on slicks just beforehand and would have almost certainly bettered his already-fastest time.

    4. George Russell (Mercedes) +0.292

    5. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) +0.400

All of these were set on inters, just so you know.

All the teams are watching Lando Norris tentatively make his way around the circuit.

Oscar Piastri now heads out on the softs and so does Lewis Hamilton.

Lando Norris ducked out of that lap, it seems.

And so he goes again. But it's about as cagey as you can imagine and is forced to cut a corner before ditching his second attempt.

Rain is imminent. Is anyone else going to have a go on slicks before it arrives?

Red Bull have told me that Yuki Tsunoda had a slow puncture. Why would you take the engine cover off if you had a slow puncture?

A snap of oversteer into Turns 2 and 3 from Lando Norris as he embarks on his slicks experiment.

He's already two seconds down on current leader Lewis Hamilton in the first sector.

  12. Postpublished at 01:00 GMT

Well Lando Norris, the championship leader, is the first man on slicks during this session.

"Zero risk" he's told over the radio.

    Goes without saying!

  13. Postpublished at 00:59 GMT

Hardly any one's out on track at the minute.

Given there's the potential for rain, surely no one's mad enough go go out on slicks?

  14. Postpublished at 00:56 GMT

Rain could be on the way, apparently.

That would certainly mix things up and might even have a say on qualifying.

Lewis Hamitlon's having a decent session in his Ferrari so far.

His 1:42.809 is currently the time to beat.

One thing here that makes it difficult to run that low downforce is the temperatures, it's a lot colder.

Also the bumps, in particular down into Turn 14, the drivers will be hitting the brakes at over 200 miles per hour at the end of that Strip.

It's bumpy and the grip surface is low, the tyre temperature is not going to be where you ideally want it.

Lando Norris goes fastest with a 1:43.078, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton who's just 0.059 seconds behind.

  20. Postpublished at 00:46 GMT

Oscar Piastri is currently the fastest man on track.

He's set a 1:43.896 in his McLaren, 0.618 seconds faster than Lewis Hamilton in second.

Those lap times are beginning to come down. Who's going to go out on slicks first then?
