Lando Norris goes fastest with a 1:43.078, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton who's just 0.059 seconds behind.

Oscar Piastri is currently the fastest man on track.

He's set a 1:43.896 in his McLaren, 0.618 seconds faster than Lewis Hamilton in second.

Those lap times are beginning to come down. Who's going to go out on slicks first then?

It's nice to see cars on track, there are quite a few people in the grandstand on the start-finish straight so they're being treated to some action.

I'm not seeing any rain on the radar, is it just worth the drivers going out to clean up the track because it takes so long for the circuit to dry?

"It's almost dry. Almost ready for slicks."

That quick corner out of Turns 14 and 15 look fun.

Carlos Sainz avoids the wall as he drifts through them. Meanwhile his Williams team-mate Alex Albon takes the runoff area at Turn 5 to avoid a high speed meeting with the wall.

Max Verstappen, who won the first race here two years ago, does incredibly well to avoid going into the wall.

His rear was drifting in the wrong direction at a high speed corner. Meanwhile Lando Norris also does well to keep on the straight and narrow.

It's difficult out there at the minute as the track's so variable.

What Oscar Piastri was talking about there is basically the surface of his intermediate tyres have got too hot and when it meets the dry part of the track it just starts to bubble over and the grooves start to fold over.

You then do not have the grip and that is what we were kind of expecting.

The track certainly feels like it's in a state of flux at the minute and will dry quite quickly.

This is the place to gamble after all so you do wonder who's going to stick a set of slicks on first and whether they'll prosper.

The track looks a bit patchwork between dry spots and wet and there's not a clear racing line just yet.

Oscar Piastri slipslides his McLaren over the line with a time of 1:47.162.

There's so many variations of tarmac here and painted white lines on the circuit.

This straight now that Lewis Hamilton is heading down which goes into Turn 10 is pretty damp.

The drivers are desperately out there to try and make sure they're getting some data in, but it's going to be so tough to generate that tyre temperature because it's so cold.

Oscar Piastri is the first man out and McLaren have sent him into the mixer with the intermediate tyre.

Lewis Hamilton and Ollie Bearman are just behind him and have also gone out with inters.

And there's been some rain in the past few hours.

You'd imagine there might be some early action in this third and final practice session.

  17. Checks and additional work to manhole coverspublished at 00:24 GMT

Fingers crossed, we won't get any more manhole cover-related delays after two red flags in the second practice session.

A fault was found with the manhole at Turn 17 that was the cause of concern yesterday.

Carlos Sainz's Ferrari was wrecked during an incident with a manhole cover in the first Las Vegas Grand Prix at this circuit in 2023.

The FIA has issued a statement on the on-track work that has been carried out overnight.

It says: "The manhole that prompted the red flag in FP2 was disassembled and further inspected. A specific fault was found with the closure mechanism, and it was possible to address this issue overnight.

"In addition to the work conducted to address the issue identified, the cover of this manhole has been welded to provide further mitigation. All other manhole covers on or close to the racing line were reinspected overnight, and additional welding was applied to a further 14 manhole assemblies."

  18. 'The pace is there' - Norrispublished at 00:20 GMT

McLaren had a pretty difficult first practice session yesterday evening but had a better showing in FP2 prior to the curtailment due to a loose manhole cover.

Championship leader Lando Norris was relaxed about their performance and saw no need for concern despite the fact McLaren struggled at the circuit last year.

"Always tricky here. We have a better feeling in the car than what we had last year and that was felt already in lap one of today," he said.

"Some good feelings. Of course not a lot of running, not really any high-fuel running, but the pace is clearly there.

"It's pretty tight between a lot of people and many people didn't get their laps in."

  19. How the top 10 lookspublished at 00:17 GMT

This is how the top 10 looks in this season's drivers' championship and it's still finely poised.

Lando Norris took a major step towards a maiden title when he won in Sao Paulo two weeks ago but there's still time for Oscar Piastri to bridge that gap.

Max Verstappen, who's won the past four drivers' titles in a row, is still in the mix as we return to Las Vegas.

There's still plenty to play for in the hunt for the 2025 Formula 1 drivers' championship.

Lando Norris leads his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri by 24 points headed into the final three races, with Max Verstappen still in the mix, too.

As the sport returns to Las Vegas for the third year on the trot, can Ferrari get back on track after their double DNF in Sao Paulo?

The business end of the season starts now. The third and final practice session kicks off tonight's action with qualifying to follow.

Third practice will get under way at 00:30 GMT.

Meanwhile, qualifying gets going at 04:00 GMT.
