The marshals are on the scene and Ollie Bearman's Haas is being rescued from the Miami track.

Oscar Piastri finishes top, Charles Leclerc is second and Max Verstappen ends his hour in third spot.

  4. Williams have 'spring in their step'published at 18:30 British Summer Time 2 May

    Rebecca Clancy
F1 journalist on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I've been very impressed by Williams and when you go down to them, you can sense a bit of a difference about them. There is a spring in their step. I didn't expect to be saying they would be best of the rest at this stage.

  5. red flag

Haas' Bearman crashespublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 2 May

Quite a few drivers failed to get a soft-tyre run in before Oliver Bearman's shunt in the Haas. We're unlikely to get going again, so Oscar Piastri will end this practice session quickest with a 1:27.128.

  6. red flag

Red flagpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 2 May

Oliver Bearman has come to a stop at Turn 12. The British teenager has spun and crashed into the barriers. "I'm fine, sorry," he tells his Haas pit wall.

  7. Piastri on toppublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 2 May

Can Oscar Piastri win three races in a row? Banking purple sectors across the Miami International Autodrome will certainly help hit that target. The Australian goes quickest with a 1:27.128 ahead of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

  8. Verstappen beats Sainz's timepublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 2 May

Max Verstappen is now proud new dad, if you're just joining us tonight. The Dutchman welcomed a daughter named Lily with his partner Kelly Piquet this week. His first run on the softs put him top of the timesheets with a 1:27.558.

  9. Postpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 2 May

Saudi Arabia race winner Oscar Piastri is preparing for his qualifying simulation but the Australian needs to inform McLaren first he's brushed the wall with his right side tyres.

  10. Sainz top on softspublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 2 May

Fernando Alonso's opener on the soft compound only yields a P8 spot, so what can Carlos Sainz do?

The Williams driver crosses the line and goes top with a 1:27.678, while his team-mate Alex Albon slips into second, 0.277 seconds off the Spaniard's pace.

  11. Postpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 2 May

The two Mercedes of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, top of the timesheets currently, are banking more laps on the medium compound, with Russell highlighting on the radio that the wind has picked up a little bit. The Silver Arrows have never made the podium at the main race in Miami, so could it be fourth time lucky this weekend?

Soft tyre alert. Carlos Sainz, Alex Albon and Fernando Alonso among the drivers turning red now...

Nico Hulkenberg is still the only driver to put a lap down on the C5 soft tyres. The German's time was a 1:29.750, so he only moved one place up the board to 19th spot. Maybe this next run will produce a bit more performance.

  14. Postpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 2 May

The next lap for Lando Norris is not exactly smooth running as the McLaren bumps over the kerbs and kisses the wall. Max Verstappen is also having a tough day at the office, with more drivers dawdling and impeding those on a flyer.

  15. Postpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 2 May

    Andrew Benson
    BBC F1 correspondent in Miami

Yuki Tsunoda has looked impressive from time to time but it hasn't quite come together for him in qualifying. If Red Bull are going to keep employing not 'A level' drivers as Max Verstappen's team-mate, they can't expect them to perform at 'A level' driver level.

  16. Close call for Norrispublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 2 May

Lando Norris is flying down the Miami circuit in his McLaren but his path is blocked by a slow-moving Haas of Esteban Ocon on the racing line. The Briton has to shimmy one way then the other to avoid any serious contact with the Frenchman. That was close.

  17. Postpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 2 May

I know it's plugging a drink but that Racing Bulls livery looks fantastic on track. Isack Hadjar is ninth on the board, running the hard tyre in his first stint in Miami, and has just ran slightly wide on his latest outing. The pink against that aqua blue run-off is a thumbs up.

  18. Top fivepublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 2 May

    1. George Russell (Mercedes) - 1:28.058

    2. Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) +0.169

    3. Carlos Sainz (Williams) +0.253

    4. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) +0.284

    5. Lando Norris (McLaren) +0.333

  19. What is the Miami GP weather forecast?published at 18:03 British Summer Time 2 May

    Miami weather

The weather here in the UK has been glorious in recent days; a touch of the Florida sunshine has paid us a welcome visit.

For round six in Miami, while the temperatures are warm all weekend, the conditions could be a touch unsettled, with the threat of showers for Sunday's 57-lap race.

For today's action, practice and sprint qualifying should see sunny intervals and a gentle breeze with a high of 29C.
