Esteban Ocon told me yesterday that he has a seat for next season. He didn't tell me what it was - I think he was a bit embarrassed that he told me.

The track is green once again and Lando Norris is one of the drivers trying to clock a few laps while the sun is out. The conditions are still dicey, however, and the McLaren driver has a little wobble at the hairpin and runs wide.

It's now lovely and warm down here and I've got my sunglasses on.

Taxi for Zhou Guanyu? The moped is on the scene to deliver him back to the garage. Zhou almost saved his slide but then the rear of the car stepped out and that was that.

    Red flag cleared.

Zhou Guanyu is safely out of the car now. The 25-year-old says on the team radio he suffered some aquaplaning which resulted in his Sauber hitting the barriers on the left-hand side exiting Turn Five.

Sauber's Zhou Guanyu has come to a stop at Turn Six. It looks like the Chinese driver could've taken a hit somewhere?

Oscar Piastri, who was on the podium in second place in Monaco, is on the wet tyres and radios McLaren to say the grip is OK and the track is drying quickly. There are blue skies starting to appear in Montreal.

The track is beginning to fill up as more cars join the (soggy) session. Championship leader Max Verstappen is on the intermediates, while the likes of the two Haas drivers have ventured out on the blue wets.

Well, at least the fans are seeing some action. Lewis Hamilton is taking one for the paddock and continuing to bank the laps on the intermediates.

Valtteri Bottas is on the Sauber radio to give his verdict. "Yeah I think we can do inters," says the Finn. "Should be OK."

Lewis Hamilton is waving to the crowd, like royalty, during his exploratory lap to check the conditions. The Briton is now joined by his former Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas.

McLaren have tweeted (do we still say 'tweeted'?!) a picture of the blue wet tyres being bolted on in the garage.

Oh, a car on track! Lewis Hamilton is the first out in the Mercedes to cheers from the Montreal crowd. I think the seven-time world champion is out on a set of green intermediates.

I hate to say it, but even if they get the track dry enough in this session, I think there will be very limited running.

Spots of rain have returned! The umbrellas and ponchos are back up/on in the grandstands.

The marshals have moved from brooms to leaf blowers in an effort to get the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve up and running for first practice. The safety cars are also assessing the conditions but once again, race control's message flashes up to say the pit exit will remain closed.

Jack Doohan has the keys to Esteban Ocon's Alpine for FP1 but the Australian is currently standing around the garage, chatting to the mechanics as the doors to the track remain shut.

Over at Ferrari, Carlos Sainz is sitting on his phone, passing the time away. With Sergio Perez booked in for another couple of seasons at Red Bull, where will the Spaniard end up for the 2025 campaign? Sainz has said there has been a lot of interest, but realistically, what seat is left for him to fill?

Guess which tyres have been packed in Pirelli's suitcase the Canadian Grand Prix? Why, it's the softest compounds in the range for a third consecutive race weekend.

Just like at Imola and Monaco, the C3 (white, hard), C4 (yellow, medium) and C5 (red, soft) have been selected by the Italian tyre supplier to take on the test of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Drivers will get two sets of the hard tyre, three sets of the medium tyre and eight sets of the soft tyre. Also making the journey are the green intermediate and blue full wets.

The brooms are out and the marshals are hard at work around sectors one and two trying to clear the standing water on the track.
