Ciaran McKeever set to miss Armagh's remaining league games

Armagh captain Ciaran McKeever looks likely to miss the remainder of this season's Football League after sustaining a knee injury in training.

The Cullyhanna club-man told the Gaelic Life newspaper that he is targeting a return to action in the Championship.

McKeever's absence is a massive blow for an already injury-hit Armagh squad.

Two weeks ago midfielder James Lavery joined the long list of absentees when he sustained a serious neck injury in training.

Lavery's neck will be in a brace for the next three months and similarly to McKeever, he is unlikely to be back in the Armagh jersey until the Championship.

Aaron Kernan, Paul McKeown, James Morgan, Finnian Moriarty, Kieran Toner, Brendan Donaghy and Gary McCooey are also currently out of action.

Kernan and Morgan could feature in upcoming League rounds as they continue their rehabilitation.

Armagh came from behind to earn a battling draw in their Division 2 opener against Louth but then suffered a morale-sapping two-point home defeat by Down after conceding an injury-time goal.

Paul Grimley's side resume their league campaign after the two-week break in Saturday evening's tough-looking clash against Meath at Navan.
