Lewis Hamilton faces an investigation for a potential red-flag infringement following a final practice session in Singapore topped by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Hamilton appeared to speed up through the final chicane of Turns 16 and 17 after the session was stopped because of a crash by Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson.
If found guilty of an infringement, Hamilton could face a grid penalty.
Verstappen headed McLaren’s championship leader Oscar Piastri by just 0.017 seconds as less than 0.1secs separated the top five drivers.
Mercedes’ George Russell and Kimi Antonelli were third and fourth fastest, with McLaren’s Lando Norris fifth.
There was just 0.072secs between Piastri and Norris, who trails the Australian by 25 points with seven races remaining.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, who was a front-runner in Friday practice, had a low-key session concentrating mainly on race pace, and had a lap on the soft tyres right at the end of the session ruined when Williams’ Alex Albon went off at Turn 13, at the end of the Anderson Bridge.
Williams’ Carlos Sainz was sixth fastest, ahead of Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar, Hamilton, Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
