Donegal sit two points clear at the top of Division Two after Michael Murphy's late free rescued their unbeaten record against Meath at Ballybofey.

Jim McGuinness's men looked to be heading to a first league defeat until marksman Murphy snatched the draw.

Meath had lead 0-6 to 0-1 but Donegal were only a point behind after Frank McGlynn lobbed keeper Padraig O'Rourke for a 27th-minute goal.

Michael Newman hit back straight away with a goal for Meath.

Donegal were 1-7 to 1-5 down at half-time but scores from Colm McFadden (2) Murphy and Christy Toye saw them draw level.

The 2-12 All-Ireland champions lost Ryan McHugh to a black card, with Karl Lacey coming on as the replacement.

Donegal were ahead briefly but Meath edged ahead through a Graham Riley point with four minutes to go.

The Royals looked like they might hang on but in the end they were denied by free-taker Murphy.
