Mark Lynch will miss Derry's Football League Division 1 game against Tyrone on Saturday after attempts to get the red card he sustained against Kerry overturned ended in failure.

Croke Park's Central Hearings Committee upheld Lynch's dismissal which happened in the second half of the Celtic Park game won 1-17 to 0-13 by the Kingdom.

Derry will also be without experienced defender Gerard O'Kane.

O'Kane has opted out of the panel but is expected to return in a few weeks.

The Glenullin man is said to have cited his current work commitments for his decision but manager Brian McIver is hoping that O'Kane will return to the squad in the coming weeks.

Manager Brian McIver is optimistic that a number of players will be available for the Tyrone game after missing the opening defeats by Donegal and Kerry.

"The likes of Dermot McBride, Carlus McWilliams, Fergal Doherty and James Kielt. We are hoping they will be available to play some part on Saturday evening," McIver told the Irish News.
