Lee Slattery leads the Welsh Open

Englishman Lee Slattery leads the Welsh Open at the end of day one thanks to a four-under-par 67 at Celtic Manor.

Just three days after shooting 66 at Walton Heath to earn himself a US Open debut, the 33-year-old from Southport continued his good form.

Miguel Angel Jimenez carded a double-bogey seven on the last for a 76.

Italian brothers Francesco and Edoardo Molinari shot 74 and 77 respectively while defending champion Alexander Noren withdrew with a back injury.

The 29-year-old had six bogeys, a double-bogey and a quadruple-bogey on his way to a 10-over 81.
