Lee Westwood has won the Nordea Masters three times

Lee Westwood won the Nordea Masters for a third time after carding a final round 68 at Bro Hof Slott.

The world number three finished the tournament in Stockholm five shots ahead of fellow Englishman Ross Fisher.

It is Westwood's first European Tour victory since the Ballantine's Championship in May 2011.

"I played really well this week - you don't win tournaments by five shots without playing well," he said.

Sergio Garcia closed with a 67 to finish on 13 under in a tie for third with Finland's Mikko Ilonen and Sweden's Peter Hanson.

Westwood, who also won the tournament in 1996 and 2001, started the final round with a three-shot lead but Hanson holed a 60-foot eagle putt on the first green to cut the gap to two.

Fisher and Garcia also closed to within two during the final round, but Westwood hit an an eagle on the par-five 12th and a birdie at the 15th to complete his 22nd European Tour victory.

Westwood missed five putts from inside six feet over the first 10 holes and acknowledged he could have secured victory a lot earlier.

"I missed a few short putts on the front nine, had a lot of chances the first 10 holes and could have really put some breathing space between me and the field," he said.

However, he was pleased with the way he responded to the challenge of Fisher and Garcia in the final nine holes.

"When I needed to on the back nine - when they got a bit closer and put me under a bit of pressure - I managed to make a great eagle at 12, a good birdie at 15 and pull away," he said.

"I hit some really solid shots. It didn't look like I was hitting it close on the last three holes but I can tell you, those last three holes, I hit it exactly where I wanted to every time."
