McIlroy positive after good Masters finish

Rory McIlroy posted an impressive three-under-par final round of 69 at the Masters to end joint 25th at Augusta on two over.

The world number two, who had a 79 on Saturday, carded four birdies and a bogey in his closing 18 holes.

Adam Scott beat Angel Cabrera in play-off after they finished on nine under.

"I didn't feel that I played all that differently to what I did on Saturday, yet my score was 10 shots lower. It was a nice round to finish," said McIlroy.

He added: "A few mistakes around this course and you can pay a heavy penalty - that's what happened me on Saturday.

"I've not had the best of tournaments but this gives me something to build on for the rest of the season.

"My third round was very disappointing and if I had done better on Saturday I might have had a chance going into Sunday," added the two-time major champion.

McIlroy began Sunday's round brightly with a birdie at the second, but a bogey at the fourth saw him drop back to five over.

Birdies at the eighth, 15th and 16th represented a strong finish for the 23-year-old.
