Eleven-year-old Lucy Li has become the youngest player to qualify for the US Women's Open.

The American secured her place after posting rounds of 74 and 68 to win the sectional qualifier at Half Moon Bay in California by seven strokes.

She will succeed Lexi Thompson as the youngest golfer to play in the event, which starts on 19 June at Pinehurst.

Fellow American Thompson was 12 years, four months and 18 days old when she played in the 2007 US Women's Open.
