Joburg Open: England's Andy Sullivan wins title by two shots

Sullivan won a play-off to claim the South African Open title in January

England's Andy Sullivan hit a six-under-par final round of 66 to win the Joburg Open by two shots on 17 under.

Sullivan had seven birdies and a bogey in his round to finish ahead of five players, including compatriots Anthony Wall (68) and David Howell (69).

Howell missed a 30-foot eagle putt on the last to force a play-off and the return birdie putt that would have secured him second on his own.

Overnight leader Wallie Coetsee shot a 71 to also tie for second on 15 under.

Sullivan's victory was his second European Tour title in eight weeks and earned him one of three spots up for grabs for the Open Championship at St Andrews in July.

He began the final round three shots behind Coetsee but five birdies in his opening nine holes moved him to the top of a congested leaderboard.

A bogey on the 11th meant he dropped a shot behind Howell, who had played the front nine in four under par.

However, Howell dropped a shot after hooking his tee shot into water on the 14th, while Wall's challenge faltered on the 15th when he also hit his ball into water.

They took the other two Open spots though because they have a higher world ranking than Ireland's Kevin Phelan or South African pair Jaco van Zyl and Coetsee, who also finished on 15 under.
