Norway's Suzann Pettersen shot a three-under-par 69 at a stormy Turnberry to take a two-stroke lead in the Women's British Open.
Wind and rain made it tough for the players, but last year's runner-up only made one bogey as she moved to seven under for the championship.
South Korea's Ryu So-yeon and Ko Jin-young, New Zealand's Lydia Ko and Taiwan's Teresa Lu are joint second.
England's Melissa Reid shot a 70 to move to one under.
Welsh golfer Amy Boulden is only two shots further back, while another English golfer, Florentyna Parker, is also one over.
Compatriots Hannah Burke and Charley Hull are both on two over for the championship.
First-round leader Kim Hyo-joo suffered a terrible second round when the South Korean followed up her sublime 65 with a six-over-par 78.
"Today was a very solid round of golf," Pettersen said.
"I felt I was in 100% control of the ball, the flight, the spin - everything you need to do in conditions like this. So this ranks pretty high as a good round of golf.
"The ball is not flying anywhere. It's cold. Today is a day where you try to make it easier on yourself and I had a very pain-free round. Kept myself out of trouble. It's tough to putt, as well, in conditions like this, so easy pars is a nice thing."
Former US Open champion Michelle Wie was forced to pull out of the event during the second round after aggravating an ankle injury. The 25-year-old American was 10 over for the day and 14 over for the championship when she withdrew on the 13th hole.
"As frustrating as it is, it just seems like I can't force it any more," she said.
