Michael Hoey has missed 21 cuts in his 28 European Tour events this year

Michael Hoey will compete at the final two rounds of the European Tour Qualifying School after making the cut at the PGA Catalunya Resort on Tuesday.

Hoey carded a one-under-par 71 over the Stadium Course to lie on the cut mark of level par in a tie for 62nd place, with the 70 and those tied progressing.

The leading 25 players after the six rounds which make up the competition will earn European Tour cards for 2017.

Ireland's Gary Hurley made the last two days as a 65 left him also on par.

England's Nathan Kimsey leads the final qualifying stage on 12 under with the help of a 61 on Tuesday, with Richard McEvoy, Jeff Winther and Robert Coles three shots behind.

Hoey carded opening rounds of 70, 67 and 76, before his fourth-round 71 saw him move up the leaderboard of 156 competitiors in Spain.

The Belfast player has won five European Tour titles during his career but failed to make the top 110 in the Race to Dubai standings, which would have earned him a card for next season.

Hoey missed the cut in 21 of his 28 European Tour tournaments this season.
