Friday's second round was postponed on Thursday and the expected deluge duly arrived

The Zozo Championship will run for an extra day after heavy rain postponed Friday's second round.

Play is set to resume at 09.30 local time on Saturday but the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Chiba will be closed to spectators.

More than six inches of rain fell on Friday and the event will now run to Monday to complete the 72 holes.

American Tiger Woods shares the lead in Japan after making nine birdies in a first-round, six-under 64.

Woods and compatriot Gary Woodland, the US Open champion, are one shot ahead of home favourite Hideki Matsuyama.

Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, who had a triple bogey and two double bogeys in an 11-over first round of 81, withdrew from the tournament while his compatriot Rory McIlroy was eight off the pace after the opening round.

Round two was to have started at 06.30 local time but that was put back due to the amount of rain, while the PGA announced on Friday that fans could not attend Saturday's play due to "safety concerns".

It is the first PGA tournament to be staged in Japan.
