When is the 2025 Ryder Cup?

  • Published

The 2025 Ryder Cup will take place from 26-28 September at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York.

This year marks the 45th edition of the prestigious match between the United States and Europe, with Europe defending champions following a 16.5–11.5 victory in Rome two years ago.

A combination of foursomes, fourballs, and singles matches will unfold across the three-day event.

Keegan Bradley - the 2011 PGA Championship winner - will captain the US while Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Kevin Kisner, Jim Furyk and Gary Woodland have been named vice-captains.

Luke Donald - Europe's 2023 winning captain - will again lead the side and has named Thomas Bjorn, Edoardo Molinari and Jose Maria Olazabal as vice-captains. The trio all served as vice-captains to Donald in Rome.

Two teams of 12 will compete in the Ryder Cup, with six places via qualification and six picked by each team's captains.

Who has already qualified for the Ryder Cup?

At present, 11 players have guaranteed their places in the Ryder Cup through qualifying. That includes all six qualifiers for the US team.

World number one Scottie Scheffler was the first to qualify for the US. He has since been joined by Xander Schauffele, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau and Harris English.

Scheffler and Schauffele are the only members of the 2023 US team that will feature via America's qualification places.

US captain Keegan Bradley fell just short of automatic qualification.

Speaking in July, Bradley said he would "consider playing" and picking himself as a wildcard, if he did not qualify automatically.

If Bradley does play, it will make him the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963 to feature at the Ryder Cup.

Rory McIlroy, who completed the career Grand Slam earlier this year, was the first confirmed member of Team Europe.

Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Robert MacIntyre and Tyrell Hatton have since qualified alongside McIlroy.

Shane Lowry and Rasmus Hojgaard are the two players who could earn the final spot. Lowry, like the other five qualifiers, were all part of Europe's 2023 Ryder Cup winning team.

Lowry is currently in line to take the final spot, but will miss out to Hojgaard if the Dane finishes in a tie for 29th or better at this week's British Masters.

Remaining dates for Ryder Cup qualification

While the six automatic qualifiers for the US are now known, there is still a place in Team Europe up for grabs.

On Sunday, 24 August, Europe will know whether Lowry or Hojgaard will complete the list of qualifiers following the conclusion of the DP World Tour at the British Masters, hosted at the Belfry.

When will the captains name their wildcard picks?

On the same day that Europe's qualifiers are confirmed, US captain Bradley will name his six wildcard picks following the conclusion of the Tour Championship.

Europe captain Donald is then expected to name his six wildcard picks on Monday, 1 September.

Will LIV golfers play at the Ryder Cup?

LIV Golf players are eligible to feature in the US team at the Ryder Cup.

When answering that question on Team Europe, the answer becomes trickier to explain.

As per Europe's rules on eligibility, all players must be members of the DP World Tour.

The issues this presents is that members of the DP World Tour that play in LIV competitions receive hefty fines and sanctions for competing in competitions that conflict with the DP World Tour schedule.

Among the highest profile players currently on the LIV Tour is former world number one and two-time major winner Jon Rahm.

In May, Europe captain Donald said that he would not guarantee Rahm a place in the team, but would expect him to feature at Bethpage Black in September.

"In terms of Jon, he's one of the best players in the world, and I would expect him to be on that team, but I certainly haven't given him those assurances," said Donald.

Hatton, who qualified for Team Europe automatically, is also a member of the LIV Tour.
