  1. Opening pars for US duopublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 20 July

    Cantlay -1, Schauffele -1 (1)

A long-range putt for Xander Schauffele at the first to get himself a birdie.

He doesn't sink it but this guy doesn't do three putts and tidies up safely.

Shorter but still lengthy for Patrick Cantlay and he'll be taking away a par too.

    Morikawa +1 (3)

2021 champion Collin Morikawa has been in contention at all of the majors this year and is on the fringes of that top band of players after two rounds at Royal Troon.

Three pars to start for the American.

    Cantlay -1, Schauffele -1

We're into the players at the business end of this tournament now as heavyweight American duo Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele take aim at the first.

Both find the fairway - and scuttle back under their umbrellas.

If Thriston Lawrence pars his way home from here, he'll finish with a 64, but he could go a bit lower than that...

Who doesn't enjoy a round with their best mate?

This has basically been an overseas golfing trip for Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, who played together on Thursday and Friday and will be off again in tandem shortly.

Both are ominously poised on the leaderboard at one under par.

  6. Birdie number seven for Lawrencepublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 20 July

    Lawrence -4 (11)

Thriston Lawrence's incredible round continues - he's knocked in a long-range putt on 11 to move to seven under for his round today.

He's just three off Shane Lowry's lead now, as the rain begins to fall at Royal Troon.

  7. Birdie for Rahmpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 20 July

    Rahm +1, Siem +1 (3)

There are plenty of birdies out there today, unless the rain really starts to fall, and Jon Rahm could bag a few of them as he's drained a seven-footer on the third to level up his card for the day.

Marcel Siem isn't scared of a birdie on this front nine by the way, he had five of them yesterday including at the first and third - which is exactly what he's done today too.

He's thrown in a bogey on the second today, but the German still knows how to score around Troon's outward nine.

Here's what MacIntyre had to say: "Disappointed - I just played 16 holes into the wind. If it stays the way it is right now you’ll see a lot of drivers for the first six holes.

"With the wind direction as it is just now, guys will be chipping onto greens and it’s playing far easier on the front nine."

On a rollercoaster few days, following his win last week at the Scottish Open:

"Coming in here from last week the chances of me winning were going to be slim. There was no expectation on me, it was just trying to get ready for Thursday.

"The crowd have been unbelievable. The support I’ve had has been very special. My golf game has not been there.

"In the back of my mind you want that week off to reflect on what’s happened in the last six weeks. One more round to go and hopefully the wind can stay in one direction, and we can get a fair fight."

Watching Bob MacIntyre this week has been a rollercoaster but today has been a little more predictable.

Out in two under par, he bogeyed 10, 11 and 15 before pulling out a magical wedge at the last to save par.

He had found himself in a spot of bother off the tee on 18 with the stance for his second hampered by a bunker. So he elected to play a right-handed shot and only succeeded in clattering his ball into a grandstand down the right. But his 70-yard chip ran up to three feet.

That went down well with the locals - the Scot has naturally been one of the most popular out there.

And he delighted one young girl, draped in a Saltire, by making sure she got his ball by tossing it to a steward and pointing her out, despite the enthusiastic shouts of young boys demanding a souvenir.

I've just been talking to BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter as he pulls on his waterproofs.

He's a veteran of many an Open Championship as a commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live, and was here as a 17-year-old to watch Tom Watson win in 1982.

"It looks like the world's going to end out there," he tells me, referring to the forecast deluge that's about to hit the links.

He also points out that Adam Scott's five-under 66 to get to level par "might not be more than five back" at the end of play.

Iain is heading out with our leader Shane Lowry and England's surprise package Dan Brown, with coverage on Radio 5 Live continuing until the final putt.

Justin Thomas may also set a challenging clubhouse lead before the worst of the forecast rain arrives.

Much is made of being on the right side of the draw for the opening two days, but Thomas' 78 yesterday may just have done him a huge favour.

  12. Early bogey for Rahmpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 20 July

Jon Rahm really looked like a two-time major winner on the back nine yesterday with a chip-in on the ninth seemingly igniting a spark in the Spaniard.

He also hammered two 400-yard drives on the closing holes last night, yep, that's right, TWO of them.

However, Rahm hasn't made the best start today, for all his 400-yard drives it's a missed five-foot putt that's cost him a shot on the second hole. Fair to say he's not pleased by that as well...

Adam Scott talking to BBC Radio 5 Live's Andy Stevenson after carding the joint best round of the day so far:

"It was very pleasant out there. It actually felt like golf today after all that battling the elements yesterday, it felt like I was in control again.

"Nice to get over yesterday’s misery and move forward again.

"The pins have been tucked strategically, I think but still with good shots. It’s much easier to get it in there fairly close.

"The wind is just not a factor at the moment, and it is helping you push it down there on the front.

"We’re going to see low scores on the front and if the wind does pick up to 10 or 12 (miles per hour), it’s going to be very hard coming in later in the day."

On it 'feeling like a different game' today: "I agree 100%. It was very pleasant out there. Of course, you are still trying to avoid the pot bunkers but if you’re controlling your golf ball, you can and you can manage to do a pretty good job of it."

    Koepka +1, Johnson +1 (14:45 BST)

Two American giants of the game, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson, have been paired together in the 14:45 BST group and have just started their rounds.

Both send their tee shots safely down the fairway.

In the previous group, Mackenzie Hughes almost drove the green on the 352-yard opening hole and ended up in a greenside bunker.

It's hard to believe the weather forecast is for it to chuck it down this afternoon after such a pleasant morning on the links. There has been barely a breath of air and, I kid you not, the sun even came out too.

However, plenty of punters are perfectly prepared having rocked up with their brollies.

But what are you supposed to do with your umbrella when it's not being used for its correct purpose? Well, it's perfect for a few practice swings... we've all done it.

It's the sort of pastime that drives my wife mad, particularly when I switch from a gentle chip-and-run to a full-blooded cover drive, while out and about.

Justin Thomas almost missed the cut yesterday but is now in the red after a phenomenal front nine.

In the gales on Friday afternoon, he shot 45 on that section of Royal Troon. Today, he navigated it in 31.

Need I say more about the improved conditions?

Although my colleague has a word of warning about the weather…

Famously, there's a railway line down the side of the 11th and South Africa's Thriston Lawrence has started like a train on Saturday.

He's just closed out his front nine after firing six birdies in his opening eight holes.

That puts him outright fourth for the tournament.

And he's not the only one who has put the front nine in its place.

    We've also had an ace!

The 17th hole is one of Royal Troon's hardest, but tell that to Si Woo Kim!

A 235-yard unleash, a skip off the fringe of the green and a full throttle roll straight into the cup.

A truly magical moment for the South Korean.

Sungjae Im of South Korea proved there was a score out there earlier when he leapt up the leaderboard with a fine 66.

Australia's Adam Scott has now joined him in the clubhouse with his own round of five under ticked off.

Whether this carries through is probably wind dependent though...
