    Morikawa -4 (15)

Collin Morikawa has spoken about tweaking his equipment for links golf, using cavity-back style irons with more bounce.

The American has a new man on the bag too in Billy Foster, who's donning a very stylish Leeds United cap.

Morikawa is playing well too - four under to this point.

A group of fans, clad in bright yellow and blue, descend on the sixth hole. I wonder who they’re supporting?

The noise that ball makes as it zips off the face of Aberg’s iron is like a bullet being fired out a pistol.

Unfortunately, it’s a little far left, but he scrambles to save par. As does Martin Couvra.

Collin Morikawa finds a birdie to move to four under.

    Not to be.

Another dropped shot as Sepp Straka's par putt races past.

Wheels coming off for the big man?

    Aberg -4, Morikawa -3, Couvra E (14)

Collin Morikawa almost lands his tee shot on top of Martin Couvra's ball, both are sitting pretty near the pin on the par-three sixth.

Ludvig Aberg catches a break as his tee shot is leaning left and clears a deep bunker by a couple of yards to stop on the far side of the green.

    Scheffler -2, MacIntyre -1, Scott -1 (15)

Bob MacIntyre and Adam Scott two-putt for their pars at the sixth, but Scottie Scheffler can't get up and down.

A bogey for the world number one.

Here's where Sepp Straka's drive on seven ended.

He gets it out but can't advance it far. Can the co-leader get down in two from about 80 yards to avoid back-to-back bogeys?

    Aberg -4, Morikawa -3, Couvra E (14)

The young Frenchman Martin Couvra battles back well to level par with a confident birdie putt.

Collim Morikawa and Ludvig Aberg both par the fifth and head to the raucous sixth.

Marcel Siem draws warm applause as his round ends on five under par. Next up is Nico Echavarria, and with similar ease he ends with a decent par putt to set the clubhouse lead at six under.

As soon as they walk off, the crowd sweeps over to the back off the sixth, right of the tee box, to get a glimpse of the main group.

Bob MacIntyre's shot is met with rapturous applause. He, Scottie Scheffler and Adam Scott have been followed around like rock stars on day one.

  9. Postpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -3, MacIntyre -1, Scott -1 (14)

Big cheers from the packed gallery at the sixth hole as Bob MacIntyre safely hits the green.

Adam Scott follows suit, but Scottie Scheffler pushes his tee shot right though and will have a tough up-and-down to save par.

  10. Straka drops a shotpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time

    Straka -6, Thomas -2, Canter -2 (15)

After three successive birdies, you'd back Sepp Straka to put another one close at the par-three sixth, but his tee shot leaves a tricky chip from just off the green and he can't get up and down.

A bogey puts him back to six under, level with Jake Knapp and Nico Echavarria at the top.

Straka is playing with Justin Thomas and Laurie Canter today, both of whom make par to stay at two under.

There’s a real salty smell at the 18th. It’s either the lovely sea breeze, or the nearby food tent.

Nico Echavarria and Marcel Siem are both up there at the moment but they’re not drawing a crowd - yet.

Instead, everyone is craning their necks to watch the reactions from the stadium hole behind them, as they prepare for Bob, Scottie and Adam Scott to enter.

  12. Postpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time

    Aberg -4, Morikawa -3, Couvra +1 (13)

    Par. Par. Par.

All three players walk off their thirteenth of the day with a par.

It's playing ever to slightly over what the scorecard says so far, making it the sixth most difficult on the course right now.

No shame in a par there, that's for sure.

There's no stopping Sepp Straka right now!

The Austrian grabs the outright lead after making light work of the short par-four fifth, draining a third birdie on the spin.

A high five with a young fan ensues as Straka strides purposefully towards the stadium hole.

  14. Postpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time

    Hill -4, Harrington -3, Connors E (15)

Padraig Harrington drops a shot after missing the green at the par-three sixth.

No such trouble for Scotland's Calum Hill and Corey Connors, who safely make pars.

  15. Postpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time

    Norlander (67)

    Martin Watt
BBC Sport Scotland at the Renaissance Club

The 18th is currently the second-hardest hole on the course and it trips up Sweden's Henrik Norlander who was on a charge with five back-nine birdies.

A shot dropped but still a tidy opening round of 67.

  16. Postpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time

    Aberg -4, Morikawa -3, Couvra +1 (12)

A sensational approach from Collin Morikawa gives him a look at eagle on the par-five third, and he sinks it accordingly. Great attempt.

Martin Couvra follows and can also putt for three, but settles for a birdie.

Not quite as easy for Ludvig Aberg, who has to scramble to save par and manages after narrowly missing out on a birdie.

  17. Postpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time

    Straka -6 (13), Echavarria -6 (16)

Sepp Straka is playing beautifully here and moves to six under with a well-judged putt from 20ft.

Nico Echavarria is three holes in front of the Austrian and also moves to the top of the leaderboard with a birdie at the par-five 16th.

There's some good scores to be had on the relatively calm first morning.

  18. Straka makes a movepublished at 11:53 British Summer Time

    Straka -5 (12)

Not to be upstaged by Nicolas Echavarria, Austrian Sepp Straka moves back into the lead alongside the Colombian on five under through 12.

Straka is currently sixth in the European Ryder Cup standings, which would guarantee him a spot on Luke Donald's side for back-to-back competitions.

A good showing here and at The Open next week could solidify his place on the team at Bethpage Black in New York.

A weak birdie putt from Bob MacIntyre comes up short, but he tidies up for birdie. He'll be pretty disappointed after that wonderful second shot.

It's the same score for his playing partners Scottie Scheffler and Adam Scott.

    Magnificent from Padraig Harrington.

The Irishman taps in for birdie on the short par-four fifth after his wedge spins back and almost drops in for eagle.

Calum Hill is pin high in two but his birdie attempt squirms wide.
