  1. Stevens misses birdie chancepublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 13 June

    Stevens -1 (6*)

From 160 yards, Sam Stevens sends his approach to the 15th within six feet of the hole. A great birdie opportunity for the American - but it slides wide!

Still, the world number 64 is two under par through his first six holes of the second round and just four shots off the lead.

  2. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 13 June

    McIlroy +7, Lowry +13, Rose +12 (9)

Rory McIlroy shrugs his shoulders as he makes only the third birdie of the day on the ninth.

It's been a long waut between drinks for the Northern Irishman, with that his first birdie since his third hole on Thursday..

It's a long curling putt from 30 feet and he's now on the projected cut line.

A run of birdies on the back nine (his front nine from Thursday), that he played so well in the first round could give him some serious encouragement going into the weekend.

  3. Bogey for Lawrencepublished at 21:12 British Summer Time 13 June

    Lawrence -5 (4*)

Thriston Lawrence looked to be in the groove but when he leaves a birdie putt well short on the 14th he is punished heavily with the loss of a shot.

The South African's lead is now only one stroke and that can evaporate in the blink of an eye round Oakmont.

  4. Spaun birdies 11published at 21:11 British Summer Time 13 June

    Spaun -4 (11)

An immediate recovery from the bogey on 10 as JJ Spaun drains a 12-foot putt for a birdie three on the 11th.

  5. DeChambeau turns in two overpublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 13 June

    Schauffele +2, DeChambeau +5, Ballester +9 (9*)

Close call for Bryson DeChambeau as he again flexes his muscles to dig out a shot from the rough and finds the green leaving a makeable 12-footer for a second successive birdie.

He can't find the hole this time though as he closes out his first nine in a two-over 37 to leave him hovering around the cut mark at five over.

Xander Schauffele is level par for the day after following two straight birdies with later two straight bogeys.

  6. Birdie for Scottpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 13 June

    Scott E, Matsuyama +7, Aberg +7 (10)

Australia's Adam Scott is back to level par for the day and level par for the tournament with a lovely swinging putt from 20 feet that breaks at just the right moment and drops in almost dead weight.

  7. Close callpublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 13 June

    MacIntyre +2 (7*)

So close to a rare old birdie on the long par-three 16th as Bob MacIntyre smashes hit tee shot 229 yards and is then inches away from rolling in his putt from 25 feet.

The Scot still enjoys about as easy a par as you'll see all day on this brute of a hole.

  8. Postpublished at 21:03 British Summer Time 13 June

156 players started - currently, only six are under par for the tournament.

  9. Birdie for Brysonpublished at 21:00 British Summer Time 13 June

    Schauffele +2, DeChambeau +5, Ballester +8 (8*)

A bounce back birdie for Bryson DeChambeau on the 17th in a textbook hole for the American - smashing a drive over 350 yards and then making a mockery of this Oakmont rough by muscling the ball out and getting to within six feet for a three.

The defending champ is hanging on in there.

  10. 'Been in a really nice mental state'published at 21:00 British Summer Time 13 June

    Hovland -1 (68)

Viktor Hovland is one of the few players under par for the tournament after shooting a two-under 68 earlier:

"For some reason, I've just been in a really nice mental state this week.

"Both my rounds have been very up and down. I feel like a couple of times if it would have happened at another tournament, for example, I could have potentially lost my mind a little bit.

"But I felt like I kept things together very well.

"It just feels like you have to play absolutely perfect and have some good breaks going your way, as well. But it's definitely doable."

  11. Spaun bogey extends Lawrence advantagepublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 13 June

    Spaun -3 (10)

And now Thriston Lawrence leads by three shots, as JJ Spaun three-putts from 30 feet for bogey on the 10th.

  12. Leader Lawrence makes third consecutive birdiepublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 13 June

    Lawrence -6 (4*)

Thriston Lawrence is known for his passion for fishing.

And at the moment he is looking like a man trying to hook a first major title. The 28-year-old is on a roll and drops in his third consecutive birdie to go two shots clear in the lead.

  13. Postpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 13 June

    Scott +1, Aberg +7, Matsuyama +6 (9)

Having confirmed it was definitely a bogey four on the eighth for Ludvig Aberg, the Swede has followed that up with another dropped shot on the ninth. He's out in 40 strokes.

Pars for Hideki Matsuyama and for Adam Scott, who continues to impress. Maybe his vast major experience could give him an advantage when we eventually crown a winner on Sunday?

  14. Postpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 13 June

    Lawrence -5 (3*)

2 Leader Thriston Lawrence has only made two of nine cuts on the PGA Tour this year

Now he's leading the US Open!

  15. New outright leaderpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 13 June

    Lawrence -5 (3*)

Brilliant. Just brilliant. Thriston Lawrence chips to seven feet from a horrible lie using the camber of the green to drag his ball towards the hole and then rolls in for his birdie.

That's back-to-back birdies for the South African who goes solo at the top of the leaderboard.

  16. Birdie for Lowrypublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 13 June

    McIlroy +8, Lowry +13, Rose +11 (7)

Shane Lowry allows himself a smile as he sees his ball disappear from 15 feet for a three on the par-four seventh.

That is the first birdie of the day from this group, who have won seven majors between them.

The current cut mark is five over....

    B Griffin -1 (8)

Back-to-back bogeys for Ben Griffin and the American slips back to one under.

    Lawrence -4 (2*)

Thriston Lawrence has missed nine cuts out of 11 on the PGA Tour this season.

The South African has had a long wait of over 20 minutes on the 12th tee but he finds the fairway nevertheless.

He lashes his second to the right edge of the par-five 12th but has an awkward pitch from a sloped lie. Can he get up and down for a birdie here and go into the outright lead?
