  1. Fox firingpublished at 21:20 British Summer Time 17 May

    Fox -6 (8)

Ryan Fox talked about his low expectations coming into the US PGA Championship after the worst possible preparations and only securing his spot late by winning the Myrtle Beach Classic in a three-way play-off.

However, the New Zealander, who is the son of All Blacks great Grant Fox, knocks in back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth and is right in the mix here.

  2. Bogey for Rorypublished at 21:16 British Summer Time 17 May

    McIlroy +2 (8*)

Rory McIlroy's tee shot on the par-three 17th dribbles towards the back of the green and he eventually makes bogey.

He's now two over for the tournament and in a share of 57th place.

  3. Vegas & Pavon make birdiespublished at 21:10 British Summer Time 17 May

    Vegas -7, Pavon -6, Fitzpatrick -5 (7)

Jhonattan Vegas has made four consecutive pars to steady the ship since that dreadful bogey, bogey start.

And he's a touch unlucky as his ball skips off the firm putting surface and just through the back edge on the seventh green.

But with a swish of his wedge he is in prime position for a birdie putt, which he rolls in effortlessly.

There's also a four for Matthieu Pavon but Matt Fitzpatrick's is unable to sink his birdie putt from eight feet.

  4. Rahm misses eagle chancepublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm -5 (14)

It's been a good day for the Eagles (Crystal Palace won the FA Cup earlier today, in case you missed it) and are we about to see another one on the 14th?

There's a fair chance as Jon Rahm's tee shot on the short par-four is a peach, within eight feet of the hole.

But Rahm pulls his putt left and so he has to settle for a birdie.

  5. Is the eventual winner now in front?published at 20:57 British Summer Time 17 May

    Scheffler - 7 (7)

    Scottie SchefflerImage source, Getty Images

OK, this is far too early but given the world number one is now leading, what say you about whether he will ultimately go on to win this?

Thumbs if you think Scheffler will be lifting the Wanamaker Trophy tomorrow.

    Scheffler -7 (7)

That will send shockwaves around the course.

  7. Scheffler shares the leadpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 17 May

    SW Kim -7, Homa -4, Scheffler -7 (7)

Scottie Scheffler leaves himself a bit more work than he'd like with his lag putt, but it's still only seven feet or so that he has to mop up for birdie - and he sends it home nicely.

Scheffler now shares the lead with playing partner Kim Si-woo and if the world number one has found his putting boots then he could be hard to stop.

  8. Bogey for Hisatsunepublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hisatsune -5 (11)

Ryo Hisatsune gives a shot back after punching his approach into the 11th and seeing it scurry on through the green to the gnarly stuff at the back.

His chip back on is also overcooked and he goes all the way off the dance floor at the other side. His second wedge shot goes much better but it'll still be a shot shaved off the young Japanese player's card.

  9. 'Just a bad stroke'published at 20:51 British Summer Time 17 May

    DeChambeau -6 (10)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra at Quail Hollow

It was an aggressive putt from Bryson DeChambeau but I think it was just a bad stroke.

As soon as he hit it, he knew he'd missed it. Some of that will be the frustration of being able to reach the green in two but then making a hash of the up and down.

This hole is an example of why long drivers have an advantage here at Quail Hollow - but it'll frustrate Bryson to have given that up here.

  10. Postpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 17 May

    SW Kim -7, Homa -4, Scheffler -6 (6)

Just an outside chance of a birdie coming up for Kim Si-woo after hitting his third to the seventh green - where Scottie Scheffler is on the putting surface in two but is over 50 feet away.

So two from there will get him another birdie.

  11. DeChambeau stays one off leadpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 17 May

    DeChambeau -6 (10)

Bryson DeChambeau gets relief from the spectator grandstand at the back of the 10th, but he won't be overly pleased with the chip on to the green.

It could, and perhaps should, have been closer than nine feet for birdie.

And the birdie try doesn't drop. Par.

  12. Bogey for Pavonpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 17 May

    Vegas -6, Pavon -5, Fitzpatrick -5 (6)

Matthieu Pavon's long run of bogey-free holes ends. The Frenchman had not dropped a shot for 29 holes but he can't get up and down from just off the sixth green after pushing his iron left from the tee.

The 2022 US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick also chipped on from the front edge but makes a much better job of it, clipping into two feet to secure his three.

  13. Postpublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 17 May

    MacIntyre -2 (7)

Robert MacIntyre will have hoped to find some upward momentum on "moving day" but, sadly for the Scot, he's dropped back the other way.

After bogeying the first two holes of the day, he dropped another shot on the fourth but got it straight back on the fifth to be two under par overall.

  14. Postpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    SW Kim -7, Homa -4, Scheffler -6 (6)

    Scottie SchefflerImage source, Getty Images

Scottie Scheffler's feeling it now - even from the sand at the sixth he's going after everything, and he almost holes it as he plays a beautiful bunker shot to easily save par in the end.

  15. Postpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    DeChambeau -6 (9)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra at Quail Hollow

I suspect Bryson DeChambeau was in between clubs but that second shot is playing into the wind and the pin is at the back

It's a good miss going slightly long - but not that far!

Strange to see him getting it quite so far wrong.

  16. Postpublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 17 May

    DeChambeau -6 (9)

Goodness me - Bryson DeChambeau has sent his second shot with a three wood through the back of the 10th green.

That hole is 606 yards long, by the way.

    Immense power.

  17. Postpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 17 May

Kim Si-woo still leads the way on seven under but there are 15 players behind within three shots of the lead.

    This is shaping up nicely.

  18. Tee trouble for McIlroy leads to bogeypublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 17 May

    McIlroy +1 (6*)

Having birdied the 14th, Rory McIlroy goes well right - out of bounds, in fact - with his tee shot on 15.

He recovers to almost chip in for par but he walks off the par five with a bogey six.

  19. Postpublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 17 May

    DeChambeau -6 (9)

A great shot from just off the back off the ninth green leaves Bryson DeChambeau with a tap-in par.

Out in 32, three under for the day, no bogeys on the card.

And then he bisects the fairway with his drive on the 606-yard par-five 10th - every chance he could be in a share of the lead shortly.

  20. Noren in contentionpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 17 May

    Noren -5 (9)

Alex Noren made a flying finish to his front nine with back-to-back birdies on seven and eight putting the Swede on five under as he makes the turn.

    Just two off the lead.
