Daniel Purvis takes World Cup bronze in Glasgow

Britain's Olympic team bronze medallist Daniel Purvis had to settle for all-round bronze at the Glasgow World Cup.

Purvis, 22, led going into the final event but was overhauled by Germany's Marcel Nguyen and Kazuhito Tanaka of Japan on the high bar.

American Elizabeth Price won the women's event with a powerful display.

Britons Rebecca Tunney, 16, and Niamh Rippin, 18, finished in fifth and sixth places respectively.

"It was a lot of fun and I've never had an experience like this in an all-round competition," said Price. "I tried to keep calm and it seemed to help me."

Purvis - who won in Glasgow last year - was fourth after the floor exercise but took the lead at the halfway point, only to lose out at the final stage.

"I feel good," he told BBC Sport afterwards. "A little sore, but it was a great competition. Really it reminded me of last year as it was a similar scenario - I was just thinking [definitely] top three, so happy."

He added: "[2012] has been a dream come true, getting an Olympic medal and winning two Europeans, but now I'll be going back to training and really working on new skills so I can hopefully go out and score more."

Gymnastics will take place at the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre during the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, with the Emirates Arena hosting badminton.

"It was fantastic here today and an incredible atmosphere," he said. "It's great for the sport and for the Commonwealths with so many people coming to watch."

Purvis's team-mate Kristian Thomas had a day to forget, twice falling from the pommel horse and again from the uneven bars to finish seventh.

"It's given me an idea of what I need to work on, but I am disappointed because I wanted to perform in front of the home crowd," reflected Thomas.
