Jersey's top hockey players are celebrating doing the double over their Guernsey counterparts in the annual inter-insular games.

Simon Watling's last-gasp goal gave Jersey's men a thrilling 5-4 victory, with Robert Cuming, Simon Hurry (2) and Will Holm also scoring.

Guernsey had been 2-1 in front at the break but goals from Matt Watson (2) and Adam Kitching (2) were not enough for them to retain the trophy.

In the women's game, Jersey won 4-1.

Chrissie Helmholt-Kneisel (2), Natacha Kay and Sarah Smith scored for Jersey, with Liz Dudim netting for Guernsey.

"I feel very proud of the way the ladies came together today," said Jersey coach Paul Masterton.

"We played some of the best hockey I've ever seen in an inter-insular. Scoring an early goal allowed us to relax and I think we really controlled the game throughout."
