World League Final: Great Britain beat world's best Australia 5-2

Great Britain's men beat the world's top side Australia 5-2 in their second World League Final pool match in Raipur, India.

Henry Weir and Chris Grassick put GB 2-0 in front and Ian Sloan's deflected penalty corner strike gave them a 3-1 half-time lead.

Further goals by David Condon and Phil Roper sealed an excellent win to put GB top of their pool after two games.

GB finish the group stage against Belgium on Tuesday (15:00 GMT).

They beat Canada, ranked 14th in the world, in their first game on Saturday.

Head coach Bobby Crutchley has elected to leave eight experienced regulars at home to rest in favour of giving fringe players a chance to impress ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio next summer - for which GB have already qualified.

Several experienced players, including captain Barry Middleton, are being rested.

"There were some big performances from some players. I said when I came here I wanted to find out about a few of them and they've done themselves proud tonight," Crutchley told BBC Sport.

"What I've really wanted to try and do is what teams like Australia have done for years - to develop a group of 25 or 26 players who can all play at the top level.

"It's certainly a good indication that we've managed to do that."
