Royal Ascot: Treble delight for John Gosden and William Buick

Trainer John Gosden and jockey William Buick secured a memorable treble on day four of Royal Ascot including victory in the Coronation Stakes with Fallen For You.

Buick punched the air with delight as he guided the 12-1 chance to a three-and-a-quarter-length win over stablemate Starscope, with Irish History in third.

Earlier, he won the Albany Stakes for Gosden on Newfangled, who was installed as 10-1 favourite for next year's 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

And the pair combined for a third victory of the day, and fourth of the week, when Gatewood won the Wolfreton Handicap.

It was a day to remember for rising star Buick. The 23-year-old had ridden three Royal Ascot winners before this week, and Friday's treble took his career tally at the meeting to seven.

Fallen For You sprang a surprise in the feature race as leading fancies Samitar, Laugh Out Loud and Homecoming Queen finished out of the places.

This year's Guineas winner Homecoming Queen tried to lead from the front in the Coronation Stakes but struggled two furlongs out as the Mick Channon duo of Samitar and Laugh Out Loud challenged.

But Fallen For You, who was only sixth at Lingfield last time, moved into another gear as she showed marked improvement on that run to surge clear.

Gosden and Buick had combined to land the Windsor Forest Stakes with Joviality on Wednesday.

They started Friday in style as Newfangled, a daughter of 2008 Epsom Derby winner New Approach, ran out an impressive winner of the opener.

Although she was reeled back in the closing stages, the filly still won by two and a half lengths.

Buick said: "It's fantastic - these are the days that jockeys dream of. Just to have a horse that runs well at Royal Ascot is very good.

"To have a winner is fantastic and to have three winners in one day is really amazing.

"Fortunately everything has gone my way and the horses are in top shape. I'm just very happy and very grateful."

Gosden added: "It's been a great day. They've been given great rides."

Of Fallen For You, he said: "She trained beautifully, worked well last Sunday morning, and we were ready for a big run.

"They went hard up front, there's a strong headwind and she was just sat there.

"She is classy - this is not a fluke."

Sir Henry Cecil, who triumphed with the brilliant Frankel on Tuesday, secured a second win of the meeting as Thomas Chippendale gave him a one-two in the King Edward VII Stakes.

Irish jockey Johnny Murtagh got the 9-2 chance up to beat Tom Queally on stablemate Noble Mission, the brother of Frankel, by half a length.

Astrology, third in the Derby earlier in the month, was third again as he lost out in a rough three-way fight to the finish, while Epsom fourth Thought Worthy also occupied the same position as in the Classic.

It was the 75th Royal Ascot win of his career for Cecil, who indicated the horse could be aimed at the St Leger at Doncaster in September, for which Derby winner Camelot is a hot favourite.
