Outsider Jwala pulled off a shock victory in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York's Ebor Festival.

The four-year-old filly, trained by Robert Cowell and ridden by Steve Drowne, beat favourite Shea Shea into second place, with the highly-fancied Sole Power coming in third.

Jwala finished 17th behind Moviesta at Goodwood on 2 August.

But Moviesta, who is part owned by QPR manager Harry Redknapp, finished last in York.

Drowne returned to racing in March after a year out with an illness that saw him lose his licence.

The jockey said: "Everyone knows my problems last year, but you need a horse like this to bounce back.

"You just need to land one like this and it gets you back. She's a fabulous filly."
