Belmont Stakes: California Chrome fails to win Triple Crown
- Published
California Chrome, ridden by Victor Espinoza, failed to make history on Saturday after finishing joint fourth at the Belmont Stakes in New York.
It was the third leg of a potential Triple Crown for Art Sherman-trained California Chrome, after victory in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
But the Belmont Stakes was won by Tonalist, trained by Christophe Clement and ridden by Joel Rosario.
Steve Cauthen-ridden Affirmed was the last Triple Crown winner in 1978.
