AP McCoy injury: Champion jockey returns at Chepstow

Champion jockey AP McCoy remains on 150 winners for the season as his two rides are beaten at Chepstow.

The Northern Irishman pulled up the Jonjo O'Neill-trained hurdler Son Du Berlais (15:35) and was fourth on stablemate Regal Encore.

McCoy, 40, still hopes to ride a record 300 winners in a season.

"To ride 300 winners, there's only 65 days in a year I can't have a winner so I can't afford any more days off," the 19-time champion told BBC Radio 5 live.

McCoy reckons he missed 14 or 15 winners during his spell on the sidelines.

He was stood down by doctors at Wetherby following a heavy fall at Warwick a few days earlier.

A 150th success of the season had marked the halfway point in his record bid, but he decided to miss last weekend's Showcase meeting at Cheltenham.

The Northern Irishman was wincing with shoulder pain after partnering Goodwood Mirage to victory at Wetherby and later missed a certain win on Presence Felt, who was left with a walkover after three non-runners.

McCoy is on course for his 20th successive jockeys' championship in a record-breaking career.

In November 2013, he passed the landmark of 4,000 wins despite a string of injuries.
