BHA launch objection to winner that should not have run

The British Horseracing Authority has objected to the result of Saturday's Badger Ales Trophy at Wincanton.

Entries should have run three times previously over fences but winner The Young Master had only done so twice.

In a statement, the BHA said a computer systems failure meant the entry was not spotted, but added: "It is the trainer's responsibility to ensure a horse is not declared for a race for which it is not qualified."

A hearing should be held on Thursday.

The horse holds an engagement at Cheltenham on Friday, and the BHA said it was "aware that clarity needs to be provided regarding the horse's handicap mark, and also whether the horse will be required to carry a penalty should it take up its entry on Friday".

Neil Mulholland-trained The Young Master won Saturday's race by seven lengths.

Although a disqualification is possible, it will not affect bets which are settled on the way the runners went past the post.
