Derby-winning jockey Joseph O'Brien, the son of top Irish trainer Aidan, says he will cut back on his riding commitments.

The 22-year-old, who is about 6ft tall and has fought to keep his weight down, is to venture into training, firstly with some point-to-point horses.

"I don't intend to race ride as much next year," said Joseph,, external who has twice won the Derby at Epsom.

It was reported last month that he would quit the saddle, external completely.

But he has not ruled out competing next season, and may still be used by his father, who runs the successful Ballydoyle yard in County Tipperary.

"I ride work in Ballydoyle every morning and that is something I will continue to do long term," said Joseph, who was replaced as Ballydoyle number one by Ryan Moore earlier in the year.

Joseph said he had been looking after some horses, both Flat and jumps, for his father at another yard in recent months.
