More from Ryan Giggs's programme notes: "Just because we have had a poor campaign does not mean that we will be lowering our expectations for next season. The benchmark at United is always winning things. I don't think the remit for this club should just be qualifying for the Champions League, it should be winning the Premier League.

Whoever gets the job will be taking over at a wonderful club. I have hugely enjoyed my time as interim manager, Saturday's game apart, and it has been an honour and privilege to occupy the role. I have seen enough from this position to convince me that the next manager will be inheriting a squad capable of winning honours."
