"Radical new plans to shake up England's professional league system are to be proposed as part of FA chairman Greg Dyke's commission on the future of the national team.

"An initial report is to be considered by the FA board on Wednesday. The most eye catching proposal is to introduce a new competition for Premier League and Championship clubs to field B teams which would be predominantly made up of home grown players.

"The final details are still being worked on but one of the ideas being discussed is a new league to be sandwiched between the Football Conference and League Two with promotion and relegation between the two divisions."

Former world champion Dennis Taylor says Ronnie 'Sullivan can bounce back from his defeat to Mark Selby in the final of the World Championship to beat Stephen Hendry's record of seven world titles.

"He can still do it because I saw him before he went out for the final session," Taylor tells BBC Radio 5 live. "He was at the back of the theatre and he said he was in a good mood, a happy mood. Steve Peters the psychiatrist who has been working with him, said Ronnie gave him a big hug in the dressing room so mentally he's in a very good place.

"In his speech afterwards he was very graceful in defeat and I think he's in a good place at the moment mentally, which is the main thing."

Six-time world champions Steve Davis says Mark Selby produced a "monstrous" performance to beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in the World Championship final.

Away from the football, Mark Selby dedicated his maiden world title to late father David, who died of cancer in 1999. The Leicester-based player, 30, beat defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan 18-14 on Monday to become new world number one.

Selby, who overturned a 10-5 deficit to win, says: "My father died when I was 16, two months before I turned professional, and his last words were, 'I want you to become world champion'.

"I said to him, 'I will do one day'. Thankfully, it's come true."

Former Liverpool midfielder Ray Houghton, who was part of the club's last title winning team in 1990, says the Reds do not deserve to be champions after the number of goals they have conceded in the last few games.

Houghton tells BBC Radio 5 live: "I think Brendan Rodgers's words after the Chelsea game will probably come back to haunt him. He said you can get anyone to get ten players behind the ball to make it difficult. Liverpool couldn't do that last night could they?

"It was in Liverpool's hands but in the last four league games they've conceded nine goals. That is not the form of champions."

So what is the Liverpool Echo's verdict on the title race? It's all over, according to football writer James Pearce.

He writes in Tuesday's Echo:, external "Monday was the night the dream died. The Premier League table will tell you that Liverpool 's fate will not be sealed until the final afternoon of the season. But the scenes of devastation at Selhurst Park told a very different story.

"The defensive frailties which have been papered over by Liverpool's attacking brilliance all season were embarrassingly exposed. Rather than being pushed to the wire, Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City have been granted some breathing space."

Denis on the BBC Sport website: Shame for Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool have been great this season. As for Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis, he's gone from zero to hero in a few months.

Foxspur on the BBC Sport website: Liverpool were extremely lucky to beat Man City, who battered them after an admittedly superb opening 25 minutes. The signs were there against Norwich too. But the senior players should have been able to lock it down at 3-1 against Crystal Palace.

Iain on the BBC Sport website: One point from six at this stage of the season shows inexperience when it comes to closing out the title. It'll stand Liverpool in good stead for next season.

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport at Selhurst Park

"This time the Premier League table did lie, for now at least. Liverpool were top by one point from Manchester City, but the overwhelming belief coming out of their camp was that this was the night their flamboyant attempt to win their first crown in 24 years went west. The body language spoke word-perfect desolation."

So why is Brendan Rodgers so glum?

Well, while his Liverpool side have a one point lead at the top of the Premier League table, title rivals Manchester City have one game in hand. Manuel Pellegrini's men will go into the final day of the season on Sunday with a two point lead at the top if they beat lowly Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

City's final game of the season is at home to 12th-placed West Ham, while Liverpool entertain ninth-placed Newcastle. Will their be one final twist to what has been a pulsating title race? Rodgers clearly doesn't think so.
