    Exeter City's acting chairman Julian Tagg says he hopes to have the club's transfer embargo lifted by the end of this week.

    City have been unable to sign any players this summer after receiving a loan from the Professional Footballers' Association to help with running costs. Lower crowds last season led to City suffering a cash flow problem.

    "The target is next Friday, we're hoping that that's done, we're putting everything in place," Tagg said.

    Tournament officials say they have no regrets about their handling of the final day of the US PGA Championship.

    A torrential downpour flooded the course and saw play suspended for almost two hours and created a race against time to finish before darkness fell.

    "I thought it was the greatest day of golf that we've seen in years and I could not be more pleased about the excitement," said Kerry Haigh, the PGA of America's chief championships officer.

    He added that there was "no consideration" to moving tee times forward when rain had been forecast.

    Eighteen-time Olympic champion Michael Phelps has been selected by the United States for the Pan Pacfiic Championships, which start on 21 August.

    The 29-year-old announced in April that he was making a comeback and finished in the top three of the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley at the US trials to qualify.

    "I got in the water and I was actually able to put together a full race," he said after the 200m medley.

    Rory McIlroy says the "best golf of his life" has led to a summer beyond his "wildest dreams", after a one-shot victory at the US PGA Championship.

    The Open champion, 25, landed a second major in as many months, holding off challenges from Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Henrik Stenson at Valhalla.

    "I gutted it out. It was a different to my previous major wins," said McIlroy, who finished with a 16-under total. "To win my second major this year and fourth by 25, it's just incredible."
