Australian Team Doctor Peter Brukner said: "Whilst surgery is not always required with hamstring injuries, Michael has substantial damage to a key part of the hamstring tendon and it was felt the best course of action was to surgically repair the damaged area.

"His recovery and the timing of his return to play will be dependent on the surgeon's advice and how well he recovers in the coming weeks."

  5. Champions League drawpublished at 10:22 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2014

Sometimes these draws can sound confusing but this one is relatively straight forward.

    • Seeded teams - group winners - go in one pot, runners-up in the other. A team cannot play sides from their own pot.

Group winners: Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, AS Monaco, Borussia Dortmund, FC Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Chelsea, FC Porto.

Group runners-up: Juventus, FC Basel, Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Schalke, Shakhtar Donetsk.

    However:

    • Teams cannot be drawn against an opponent from their own country.

    • A side cannot face an opponent they have already played in this year's competition in the round of 16 draw.

So for example Bayern Munich as group winners cannot face Manchester City who they have already played, or Schalke and Leverkusen as they come from the same country. They therefore have five possible opponents. Got it? Good.
