    Two-time winner Adrian Lewis believes he is "more dangerous" when competing at the PDC World Championship.

    World number three Lewis, who won the title in 2011 and 2012, is seeded third and plays Shropshire debutant David Pallett in the first round on Tuesday.

    "Instead of doing three hours of practice per day, I up it to five hours per day," the 29-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent told BBC Sport.

    "I make sure I'm at my pinnacle for the World Championship," he continued.

    The 2022 Qatar World Cup saga rolls on - with Europe's biggest clubs and leagues saying it should be played between 5 May and 4 June rather than in winter.

    Qatar was awarded the event in 2010, with leading Fifa figures subsequently backing a proposed winter tournament because of the scorching summer temperatures.

    But the European Club Association (ECA), who represent 214 top European clubs, and European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) both say it could be played safely at the start of the summer.

    A decision is expected by March 2015.

    World players' union FIFPro, external warns members not to sign for clubs in Serbia because they run the risk of not getting paid.

    FIFPro and the Serbian Players' Association said eight of the 16 teams in the top flight have had their accounts blocked by the Serbian national bank and could not play players and other employees.

    "We hate to do this but it is our job to protect the players," FIFPro secretary general Theo van Seggelen said in a statement.

    Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has not travelled with the squad to Bournemouth for Wednesday night's League Cup quarter-final, reports the Press Association.

    The Italian was a second-half substitute in Sunday's defeat at Manchester United, where he made his comeback after more than a month out with a groin problem.

    Balotelli has stayed behind to receive further treatment on the injury at the club's Melwood training ground with a view to him being fit for Sunday's visit of Arsenal.

    Meanwhile, right-back Glen Johnson, who came off with a groin injury at Old Trafford, is likely to be out for about a month, according to reports.

    The turmoil continues at Rangers where the Scottish Professional Football League is withholding £250,000 of broadcast money due to the Ibrox club in a bid to recoup a fine imposed for the club's use of a controversial tax scheme.

    The fine was imposed in February 2013 after Rangers were found to have broken league rules in their use of an employee benefit trust scheme.

    Rangers are to appeal against the decision on the grounds that the company in breach of the rules has since been liquidated.

    Meanwhile, manager Ally McCoist will attend a Rangers board meeting later having tendered his resignation with 12 months' notice. A settlement fee may be agreed with McCoist leaving sooner.

    England will announce the one-day squad for January's tri-series in Australia and the World Cup, which starts in February, at 11:00 GMT on Saturday.

    It is expected a 15-man squad will be named, although they may add some bowling cover for the tri-Series featuring Australia and India with James Anderson and Stuart Broad coming back from injury.

    They will also announce the England Lions squad.

    Best wishes to Anthony Crolla, who is in hospital with a "possible fractured skull" and broken ankle after he was hit on the head when confronting burglars.

    Crolla, 28, was due to fight for the WBA world lightweight title in January, but the bout against champion Richar Abril has been postponed because of his injuries.

    Promoter Eddie Hearn told BBC Sport the Manchester-based boxer was in a "stable condition".

    Hearn added: "He confronted burglars at his home and was hit on the head by either a brick or a concrete slab."
