Asked if the Brisbane game affected Wigan's performance, Wane told BBC Radio Manchester: "It probably did. It's a tough game, we played for 90 minutes but that's the way it is. We chose to do it.

"I still think we could have come here and won the game quite comfortably. We were just dumb with the ball and just not acceptable."

"Zero points could have easily been six, It could have been four. We have to bounce back and get points as soon as we can.

"The pressure should be on them already, if they are not feeling the pressure being second bottom of the league, playing for a massive club like Aston Villa then something is seriously wrong."

    (The answer is 'probably not'...)

    Luis Figo

Luis Figo has welcomed the idea of a Fifa presidential debate between candidates ahead of the vote in May.

Speaking about the idea, Figo said: "Football is loved and cherished around the world and we owe it to the fans to have an open, honest discussion about the future of Fifa as the international governing body.

"I fully support the idea of a public debate between the candidates as proposed by the BBC and Sky. For this to work effectively, I believe all four candidates need to participate and I will be writing to the broadcasters to confirm that position.

"It is essential that we set Fifa on a new course and the football community, including the public and the fans, deserve to know what all four presidential candidates offer for the future."

"It remains to be seen how successful we are at doing that. But, I believe that we can turn the situation around."

Newcastle defender Mike Williamson says the manner of his side's 1-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday was the perfect response to their humbling by Manchester City the previous weekend.

The 5-0 thrashing by City was described as "pathetic" by Newcastle legend Alan Shearer on Match of the Day.

"The determination, character and persistence were there for everyone to see," Williamson told BBC Newcastle. "We were all aware of the importance on the back of last week's disappointing result.

"The lads were making sure we didn't capitulate, we wanted a reaction and wanted to show people and ourselves. There was a lot of personal pride out there today which can make for a tense game."

"Nothing has happened. I would be surprised if something happens with this as it stands," he said.

"But the media have highlighted it and we'll have to see where it goes.

"It's about how the laws are interpreted. We've seen a couple of incidents over the weekend that are being debated retrospectively.

"Things like this and diving, elbows and poor tackles are all on the agenda to deal with."

"We're not finding the net. It's frustrating but we need to take responsibility," defender Fonte told BBC Radio Solent. "No-one will criticise if you try and something doesn't come off - at least try and make something happen.

"Just shoot - it might hit someone and deflect in. That's what we've got to keep trying."

Ehsan Khan: Mohammad Amir. He was a young and naive bowler and hopefully he has learnt his lesson. We all want second chances!

    Jonathan Trott

Felix Keith: Jonathan Trott deserves another chance. Much more so than Kevin Pietersen.

Keep your suggestions coming in through the normal channels.

Maynor Figueroa challenge on Stephen Ireland

Steve Bruce responding to questions about Maynor Figueroa's challenge on Stoke's Stephen Ireland on Saturday: "Stephen Ireland committed the worst challenge on David Meyler. It was an awful challenge about 20 minutes in.

"I could take you a picture of Maynor Figueroa's ankle on Saturday, he had five stitches from a tackle he received and carried on.

"Nobody wants to see a cut from an injury that Stephen Ireland received, but unfortunately in football it happens. There's challenges with the way boots are nowadays with these blades that result in these type of injuries.

"Unfortunately Maynor has kicked the ball and has followed through and caught Stephen Ireland's leg."

  55. Steve Bruce news conference

Hull City v Sunderland (Tuesday, 19:45 GMT)

    Wes Brown sending off

Steve Bruce on the controversy surrounding Wes Brown's sending off against Manchester United: "I was watching the rugby yesterday afternoon and the referee, before he awarded a try, stopped to speak to the video official before making his decision.

"With the technology we've got, the goal line technology, I can't see the reason why the referee can't go to the fourth official and say, 'I'm undecided here about which one has committed the foul'.

"It was a foul, but he's obviously got it wrong. If he can stop the game for four or five seconds to review the footage, it can get the right decision."

  56. Steve Bruce news conference

"I'm only interested in what we do."

Hull City manager Steve Bruce on his side's home match against a fellow relegation struggler: "It gives us a wonderful opportunity of putting some daylight between ourselves and Sunderland in the bottom three.

"If we take that opportunity, it's a tremendous platform for us which is always good with 10 games to go.

Crystal Palace v Southampton (Tuesday, 19:45 GMT)

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has been speaking ahead of their match against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

    Ronald Koeman

He has been addressing the lack of goals from his side. "We need to be more ruthless in the box, but its not just the strikers, it's the team who need to create more chances. I need to be clear to the players in what we are trying to do and trying to reach."

Koeman was also asked where the team were aiming to finish in the Premier League table. "Champions League football is still possible if we win seven or eight of 11 matches but it will be difficult. If we win five of 11 games, that means 61 points and we will be playing European football."

Some good news, there are no fresh injuries to the team for the match against Palace.

Sections of a 1,300-strong following from Millwall turned nasty after Rotherham scored an 85th-minute goal to seal a 2-1 win, which left the London club six points adrift in the bottom three.

There were also reports of further trouble outside the ground after the game, with two stewards suffering injury and the windscreen of a car housing a disabled home supporter smashed.

    Football

    Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma was labelled "our new Marcel Desailly" by Jose Mourinho after the Capital One Cup final win.

With Nemanja Matic Mourinho selected defender Zouma in midfield for his 17th Chelsea appearance and the 20-year-old Frenchman did not look out of place in the 2-0 Wembley defeat of Tottenham.

That brought further comparisons to his compatriot Desailly, who played 222 times for Chelsea, and was comfortable in both defence and midfield.

"That is a lovely thing, what the boss said," Zouma said. "(But) it is too early to say that because Marcel Desailly is a legend of Chelsea".
