    Kevin Pietersen's long-awaited return to County Championship action with Surrey lasted just 28 balls on Sunday.

    The 34-year-old, who is hoping to earn a recall to England's Test team, made 19 on day one of his side's Division Two match against Glamorgan in Cardiff.

    But Surrey will resume in a commanding position at 363-3 this morning, with Kumar Sangakkara (112 not out) and Steven Davies (109 not out) returning to the crease.

    Elsewhere in Division Two, Essex are 67-6 in reply to Kent's 193, while Lancashire ended day one of their match with Derbyshire on 292-8.

    Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici has tweeted for the first time since his costly mistake in the FA Cup semi-final.

    The Australia international failed to hold onto Alexis Sanchez's tame shot and it rolled over the line in extra time, to hand Arsenal a 2-1 win and a place in the Wembley final.

    The poor fella was reduced to tears at full-time, so the Reading fans are planning a #flagsforfeds tribute at Wednesday's Championship game against Birmingham at Madejski Stadium where they intend to bring Australian flags in support of their keeper.

    In a series of tweets,, external he thanked the Royals fans for their support and vowed to "come back stronger".

    The front page of Spanish daily newspaper Sport focuses in on Barcelona's Lionel Messi, who scored his 400th goal for the club in a 2-0 win over Valencia on Saturday.

    The paper says the 27-year-old is in the prime of his career. Sport also reports that Real Madrid midfielder Luca Modric will not play again this season because of injury.

    Manchester City Ladies midfielder Jill Scott has apologised for the head butt which saw her sent off in her side's 1-0 defeat by Arsenal.

    The England international was shown a straight red card in the 56th minute of their Women's Super League 1 match after reacting to a challenge from Gunners defender Jade Bailey.

    Bailey was shown a yellow card for her part in the fracas.

    On Twitter Scott said: "Gr8 effort from all the girls, I want to apologise for the incident which led to me being sent off, gutted to let every1 @MCWFC down today".

    Take a bow Mr Matthew Hoggard.

    The shaggy-haired Yorkshire seamer, one of the unsung heroes of the 2005 Ashes - when he helped England reclaim the urn from Australia after an 18-year wait - emerged as England's best-ever Test bowler in the BBC's study.

    Of Hoggard's 248 Test victims, 28% had a career batting average of more than 45. In comparison, only 10% of Botham's wickets were those of batsmen who averaged more than 45, while Anderson was just behind Hoggard on 27%.

    Hoggard admitted he was "surprised" by the result ... but added he would savour the bragging rights over Anderson and fellow Yorkshireman Darren Gough (12th on England's all-time list with 229 wickets).

    Some tragic news emerging from India, where a 20-year-old cricketer is reported by Reuters to have died as a result of an on-field collision with a team-mate.

    Ankit Keshri collided with a team mate as both players went for a high catch during a club match in the eastern city of Kolkata. He briefly lost consciousness but was resuscitated by a team-mate and taken to hospital.

    According to doctors, Keshri's condition was stable but he suffered a cardiac arrest around midnight on Sunday and died early on Monday morning.

    The incident comes four months after Australia cricketer Phillip Hughes died after being hit by a bouncer.
