    Stewart is the most capped cricketer of all-time in test matches. He played 133 Tests, not to mention a further 170 one-day internationals.

    He made his Test debut against the West Indies in February 1990 and went on to score more than 8,000 runs at an average of 39.54.

    Hammersmith and Fulham Council says it would support any plans, subject to certain conditions being met.

    The club have held two public exhibitions to showcase their design, which they hope to begin working on at the start of next season.

    A full planning application is now expected to be submitted.

    In a statement on the Arsenal website, external the club said: "Due to a slow healing response from a fracture suffered in August, the club can confirm that Jack Wilshere is to undergo an operation to his left fibula.

    "The decision to intervene has been taken quickly after regular reviews by specialists, who feel that Jack’s scans show that the healing process is not progressing as well as expected.

    "Jack will have surgery in London in the forthcoming days. This will involve inserting a small plate in his left fibula. Jack is likely to be out for approximately three months."
