Britain's Hannah Cockroft claimed her third successive T34 100m world title on the opening day of the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha.

The 23-year-old from Halifax won in a championship record of 17.73 seconds.

Sophie Hahn set a new world record and retained her T38 100m title in 12.60, while Kadeena Cox and Georgie Hermitage led a British one-two in the T37 100m.

Earlier Aled Davies retained his F42 shot put title with a championship record of 14.95m for GB's first gold.

Remember when Sam Allardyce said he could manage Real Madrid? Well, it seems Sunderland striker Fabio Borini agrees. He had this to say about his new boss. 

“It’s something that you notice because the details always make the difference,” said Borini in the Sunderland Echo.

“I’ve played at the big clubs before and that’s what makes the difference between the big teams.

“I found out with Ancelotti and the big managers, that they were caring about every single thing from set plays to throw-ins. That’s what the manager has been doing here since day one."

Palace don't want a pizza the action

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew said: "I'll be disappointed if they're eating pizza this weekend! We'll be looking to throw as much offensive action at them as we can.

"The chance of this game being 0-0 is zero. If you're going to Leicester, expect to see some goals."

Watford will still be without Jose Jurado but otherwise have no fresh injury concerns before facing Stoke on Saturday. 

Quique Flores will again make changes to his team and he acknowledges he needs to see more from those players not in the side and those coming on as substitutes: 

"We are working [on that]. We have the potential of the players who signed in the summer and we are expecting but I understand the different circumstances of the players. They need to adapt to the league so it's a question of time."

Watford head coach Quique Flores has been addressing the issue of scoring goals before Saturday's trip to Stoke. 

Watford have found the net just six times - the fewest in the Premier League this season. Flores wants them spread through his team: 

"It's very difficult to find players who can score easily so we have to deliver the goals between players. At the moment just Ighalo is the only player able to score. 

"For sure in the future it's coming from other players like Deeney or Abdi or Capoue or central defenders from set pieces."

Bastian Schweinsteiger is considering taking legal action against a Hong Kong company making Nazi dolls that bear a striking resemblance to him.

The Manchester United midfielder's management company put the matter into the hands of their German-based lawyers earlier this week.

The dolls, named 'World War II Army Supply Duty - Bastian', are made in China by Dragon in Dream.

The company told German paper Bild any resemblance was "purely coincidental".

"We are in a difficult moment," he said.

"We're not playing at the performance levels we have [previously] but it's my job as manager and the players' responsibility to come through it.

Someone sound the mind games siren. New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen believes that South Africa counterpart Heyneke Meyer's lavish praise of the All Blacks this week is a World Cup semi-final tactic.

"Behind closed doors, I don't think he will be doing that with his team. He is trying to paint a picture that they (South Africa) will have to play the best game they've ever played in their life. 

"At the same time, he is trying to tell our guys that you just turn up and win. We would be very foolish to fall into that trap. We've got to turn up with our 'A' game, and a little bit more. He's a cunning wee devil, Heyneke. He has been praising us all week and, while I know he means some of it, I know they're getting ready to rip our heads off."

Cockroft is one of two GB gold medallists in the session so far after newcomer Kadeena Cox triumphed in the T37 100m.

Refs will always make mistakes

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen believes that refereering mistakes are a fact of life in rugby union. 

Hansen's comments follow the controversy that marred last Sunday's World Cup quarter-final when South African referee Craig Joubert incorrectly awarded Australia their decisive penalty against Scotland. 

Hansen said: "The referees make mistakes. As long as they take a breath, they will make them, because players do and coaches do. 

"So if you can accept that, the best way to avoid that mistake being the game-winning mistake, for want of a better term, is to make sure you are in front by enough for it not to be."

Wolves help neighbours Sporting Khalsa

Sporting Khalsa play in the ninth tier of English football and they're busy preparing for the biggest game in their history - an FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie against FC United of Manchester on Saturday.

Midlands neighbours Wolves have offered their support by allowing the non-league side to use their multi-million pound training complex this evening.

"All I can do is wish them all the best," Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett told BBC WM. "It would be fantastic if they could progress.

"They've got to this stage and will be desperate for that to continue. It will be great for them and I think they'll enjoy it.

And, to make it a hat-trick of injury news, Bradford City striker Steven Davies will be out for "10 to 12 weeks" because of a knee problem.

The 27-year-old had to go off during Tuesday evening's League One win over Bury.

Injury setback for Sky Blues

Sticking with the injury news and Coventry City defender Reda Johnson will not play again this season because of a hamstring tendon injury.

The 26-year-old had to be helped off during Saturday's goalless draw against Blackpool.

Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "He's obviously a miss for us, as he's been a man-mountain this year."

Kare's parents said she "wasn't able" to do sport in school, but now she's "excelling" in wheelchair racing.

Europa League preview

After the Champions League comes the Europa League. It is the way of the footballing world. And so, following two days of Europe's premier competition we have a Thursday of, well, Uefa's other tournament. 

There is a notable British presence, with unbeaten Tottenham heading to Belgium to face Anderlecht, Jurgen Klopp taking on his first European game as Liverpool boss against Rubin Kazan, and Celtic are in Norway to face Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Molde.

We'll have a live text commentary on these games, running from about 17:15 BST.

Newcastle must be a little bit buoyed by Sunday's stunning 6-2 win over Norwich.

But, according to boss Steve McClaren, no one is getting carried away ahead of a big, big derby against Sunderland on Sunday.

He said: "It's been a normal week for us and that's what we have tried to do. We try to be as level as possible all the time.  

"The approach for this game is no different and should be no different. We have to play the game and not the occasion."

Pakistan frustrate England

Day one of the second Test between Pakistan and England has drawn to a close and the home side have ended on top. A disciplined bowling performance from the tourists had earlier seen Pakistan reduced to 178-4 but a hundred from Misbah-ul-Haq has swung the game in his side's favour.

Former Wales and Netherlands assistant coach Raymond Verheijen has responded to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s suggestion that playing for Wales in a Euro 2016 qualifier contributed to Aaron Ramsey's latest hamstring injury.

Ramsey came off during Arsenal's 2-0 Champions League win over Bayern Munich on 20 October, having played 90 minutes against Watford on 17 October. He played all of Wales' 2-0 win over Andorra on 13 October

"There are six or seven players at Arsenal who are consistently injured for weeks or months every season,” he told BBC Wales Sport. "It tells you something is going wrong at Arsenal in terms of over-training these young players. As a result, their bodies are breaking down."

BBC Sport has learnt that Spain’s Angel Maria Villar Llona was the only Fifa executive to oppose greater transparency over on-going ethics investigations when the matter was voted on this week.

Fifa’s executive committee decided to relax the rules that prevented football officials under investigation from being named.

Fifa sources have confirmed to BBC Sport that a vote took place on Tuesday in Zurich (19 to 1 in favour).

Villar Llona, the former head of Spain and Portugal’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup, was the only executive to object.

Gloucester number eight Ben Morgan has defended his performances for England at the World Cup and insisted he was fully fit for the tournament.

The 26-year-old, who was named in the squad after recovering from a broken leg, was among players criticised in the media following England's early exit.

Rogers in at Liverpool

Liverpool Ladies have promoted assistant boss Scott Rogers to the manager's job.

The 29-year-old was assistant to Matt Beard, who has joined Boston Breakers, for the last three years. Under the duo they won the 2013 and 2014 Women's Super League One titles, although they finished second from bottom this year.

Rogers said: “We have had a tremendous run and although we were unfortunate with injuries last season we have a young, hungry squad and I am confident we will be competitive again next season.”

Reds chief executive Ian Ayre said: “We are delighted to now appoint Scott as the new manager and I’m looking forward to next season to carry on with the great progress that’s been made to date.”

Wales to meet Netherlands

Wales will play the Netherlands in a friendly on 13 November at the Cardiff City Stadium. 

"We produced an excellent display when we last met the Netherlands," Wales manager Chris Coleman said.

"We look forward to welcoming the Dutch to Cardiff for what I'm sure will prove to be a valuable and entertaining match as we begin preparations for Euro 2016 in France."

Cox breaks World record

More news on the world record broken by Kadeena Cox in the IPC World Championships in Doha.

GB sprinter Cox broke the world record in the T37 100m heats. 

She set a time of 13.59 seconds, beating the previous best of 13.68 and will go in the final later at 14:48 BST along with fellow Britons Georgie Hermitage and Jenny McLoughlin.

Cruyff diagnosed with cancer

Former Netherlands great Johan Cruyff has been diagnosed with lung cancer, according to reports in Spain.

Radio station RAC1 and Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo have said the 68-year-old was diagnosed on Tuesday and is currently undergoing tests to discover the extent of his illness.

Cruyff helped his country reach the World Cup final in 1974.

He also won three consecutive European Cups with Ajax and went on to play and manage at Barcelona.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez says he will wait to see how midfielder Tom Cleverley comes through the next two training sessions before deciding whether the midfielder is ready to return for the game against Arsenal.

Cleverley, who has been out injured since August, made his comeback from an ankle problem for the Under-21s against Schalke on Tuesday, successfully playing an hour without any complaints.

“We will see how he [Cleverley] reacts from the game on Tuesday and the next two sessions are very important to measure that," said Martinez.

Hot on the heels of Sam Allardyce's appointment as manager, they have brought in Mark Taylor as the club’s performance director.

"The over-arching role will see Taylor take responsibility for key areas of the club’s football operation, including sports science, strength and conditioning, medical, performance analysis and the first-team coaching staff," the club say.

BBC Sport's Elizabeth Hudson in Doha: It's a hot morning here in Doha for the opening day of the IPC Athletics World Championships - and Britain have already got their first gold medal.

Welshman Aled Davies, who is one of the more experienced heads on the team, despite only being 24, successfully retained his F42 shot title, 10 weeks after hernia surgery.

"If I was an egg, I think I'd be hard-boiled," said a thrilled Davies afterwards. 

"This is the hottest I have ever competed in. I competed in Taiwan in 2007 and I thought that was hot, but this is something else. But you just have to deal with it and I think we have managed that quite successfully."

Ewers agrees new Chiefs deal

Exeter Chiefs back-row Dave Ewers, 26, has signed a two-year contract extension to run until the summer of 2018.

"In most people's opinions he should have at least been involved in the 50-man England squad, and in a lot of people's opinions the 31-man squad and been at the World Cup," said head coach Rob Baxter.

Can Big Sam save Sunderland?

New Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce popped into the BBC studios this morning to discuss the release of his new book - which, naturally, is titled 'Big Sam'.

He also spoke to BBC Radio Five live about Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby against Newcastle, which will be only his second game in charge of the Premier League's bottom side.

"The feeling in the north east runs passionately as we all know," said the 61-year-old.

"In the last few seasons they’ve been fighting around the relegation zone, but whenever this game has come around, they’ve produced a performance that you’d like to see every week. 

"Winning these games means everything to the Sunderland fans."

Machan signs new Sussex deal

Sussex and Scotland batsman Matt Machan has agreed a new three-year deal with the county to run until the end of the 2018 season.

The 24-year-old left-hander made 955 Championship runs this summer at an average of 39.79, including three centuries.

England took two wickets on the first morning of the second Test against Pakistan in Dubai. Pakistan again won the toss on another pitch ideal for batting, albeit one that has offered more assistance than the drawn first Test in Abu Dhabi. Shan Masood's unbeaten 54 took the hosts to 85-2 at the end of the first session. England did strike twice in four overs - Moeen Ali had Mohammad Hafeez caught at short leg and Ben Stokes, passed fit after illness, had Younus Khan brilliantly held by Jonny Bairstow in the same position.

Anthony Martial went from zero to hero last night for Manchester United, giving away a penalty with a handball before scoring his team's equaliser.

After the game, United boss Louis van Gaal said: "He is a human being, he reacts and it is a stupid reaction but sometimes things will happen. It's the first time that it happens and if it's happening always with me it's a pity.

"But he was not affected at half-time so I was very happy with his performance."

Things took a nasty turn in Manchester city centre yesterday. Four Polish football fans were arrested after men threw chairs at each other during a fight.

The trouble flared ahead of Manchester City's Champions League group match against Spanish side Sevilla at the Etihad Stadium.

Reports suggest some of the people involved in the trouble were wearing the colours of Polish club Slask Wroclaw, whose fans have clashed with those of Sevilla recently.

Following on from the Mirror headline I brought you earlier, here is the video of Jurgen Klopp talking about players being treated like horses. 

This was sparked by Jordan Rossiter returning from Under-19 international duty with a hamstring injury after playing three matches of 90 minutes during the last international break. Apparently, England also had him on a diet of hay and sugar lumps.

Anthony Martial had a down and up night as he rescued a point for a laboured Manchester United after having handed CSKA Moscow a penalty.

Seydou Doumbia gave CSKA the lead, reacting first after David De Gea saved Roman Eremenko's penalty, awarded for a handball by Martial.

United improved after the break with Martial making up for his mistake by heading in Antonio Valencia's cross.

They are now second in Group B as Wolfsburg beat PSV Eindhoven to go top.

Back to the football and Manchester City snatched a big win in the Champions League last night in dramatic circumstances...

Kevin de Bruyne's 91st-minute winner gave City victory over Group D rivals Sevilla.

The Spanish side had taken a deserved lead when Vitolo's cross was turned in by the impressive Yevhen Konoplyanka.

City quickly equalised when Wilfried Bony's close-range shot was deflected home off Adil Rami after good work by Yaya Toure.

We have a wicket in the cricket! Mohammad Hafeez has gone, caught by Jonny Bairstow off Moeen Ali. Maybe there is something in this for England? Pakistan had been going well before that. Judging by this tweet from Michael Vaughan, Geoffrey Boycott is in good form...
