    Football

Women in Football group says it is “staggered” that Heather Rabbatts faces a Football Association investigation over her comments regarding the former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro.

    The statement:

"Women in Football (WiF) are staggered to learn that Heather Rabbatts will face an FA investigation into her comments regarding Dr Eva Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn, following a request by FA Council members.

"In speaking out Rabbatts sought to highlight the injustice of a situation whereby a high profile manager attempted to prioritise results on the field of play over medical ethics, and ultimately a doctor with an unblemished record lost her job.

"Jose Mourinho's stance was universally condemned by medical organisations including the Football Medical Association, the Premier League Doctors Group, as well as FIFPro, and the PFA."

    Background:

Rabbatts was critical of the FA's handling of former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro, who left the club after criticism from manager Jose Mourinho.

    Dan Roan

    BBC Sports editor

The head of the UK's national anti-doping agency says the body is is "in jeopardy" because of potential government funding cuts.

David Kenworthy, chairman of UK Anti-Doping (Ukad), told the BBC: "We've been told to expect cuts of up to 25%.

"Ukad would be in jeopardy if we had large cuts like that because the purpose for which we're here, I'm not sure we could fulfil it properly."

The warning comes in a year when sport has suffered widespread doping claims.

"We've got to have the time and means to try to make up that income if we're to survive - if we don't, the integrity of UK sport is at risk," said Kenworthy.

  18. Alonso: 'Hamilton is all-time great'

    Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton must be considered as an all-time Formula 1 great, Fernando Alonso says.

The Spanish double world champion had a frosty relationship with the Briton while they were both at McLaren, and in 2007 it ultimately led to Alonso's premature exit from the British team after just one season.

If Hamilton wins this Sunday's United States Grand Prix, and Sebastian Vettel, who has been penalised with a 10-place grid penalty after an engine change, finishes third or lower, the Briton will seal this his third title with three races to spare.

"I think he is one already," said Alonso when asked if a third title would see Hamilton become an all-time great in Formula 1.

"He's had some up and downs but the good thing about Lewis is that when he didn't have the best car he still won some races, maybe not the championship, but winning some races and fighting for the championship. That's something that maybe not everyone did."

  24. Van Gaal: City are favourites to win derby

    Football

    Bill Rice

    BBC Radio Manchester

Manchester UnitedmanagerLouis van Gaalhas taken the unusual step of making Manchester City favourites for Sunday’s derby at Old Trafford.

David Moyes was ridiculed by United fans for taking a similar stance ahead of a game against Liverpool when he was in charge, but the Dutchman’s assessment is based on the fact City – even with injuries to key players like Sergio Aguero and David Silva – are currently top of the Premier League, and United are third.

Van Gaal’s suggestion seems to be United won’t be top dogs in Manchester again even if they win on Sunday and leapfrog their opponents, but until they clinch the Premier League title again.

  32. Could amputee win gold the Olympics?

    Athletics

German single-leg amputee Markus Rehm has just caused a sensation by jumping to 8.40m to set a new world record at the IPC World Championships.

That leap would have won Olympic gold at London 2012, and silver at the last three able-bodied World Championships

It was just one centimetre less than Greg Rutherford's winning leap at the Worlds in Beijing in August.

Rehm has won the last two German able-bodied championships, but was not allowed to compete at this year's World Championships, which puts his Olympic prospects in doubt.

  39. Striking dilemma

Manchester United v Manchester City (Sun, 14:05 GMT)

    Bill Rice

    BBC Radio Manchester

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has a decision to make about who starts up front on Sunday. It’s likely to be his captain Wayne Rooney, who has scored more goals than anyone else in the Manchester derby.

The England striker – who turns 30 on Saturday – was an isolated figure and managed just 40 touches in their 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow this week, but did score on his return to his old club Everton last weekend in United’s best performance of the season so far.

That would mean September’s player of the month Anthony Martial starting on the left, unless Van Gaal instead opts for Ashley Young, who has missed the last two games with a calf injury.

  40. 'There is a depression that lies over Bolton'

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce fears that his former club Bolton Wanderers will struggle to make it back to the Premier League if they are relegated from the Championship this season.

    Sam Allardyce

The 61-year-old told BBC Radio Manchester: "There is a depression that lies over the club that Neil has to try to lift from the players particularly to get more out of them.

"It is a difficult situation for him, they don't have any money but his job is to extract the most out of those players and make sure they don't get relegated this year."

Celtic's chances of a place in the knockout phase of the Europa League were reduced as Molde consolidated their lead at the top of Group A.

In atrocious conditions, Dedryck Boyata's slack pass paved the way for Ola Kamara to secure an early lead.

That was followed by a second from Vegard Forren on 18 minutes, which put the Norwegian champions in command.

Kris Commons reduced the deficit after the break, but Mohamed Elyounoussi soon restored the two-goal advantage.
