    In amongst all that, there were three nominations for Fifa's goal of the year, also known as the Puskas award, which is decided by a public vote. They were for Alessandro Florenzi's 55-yard strike for Roma against Barcelona, Wendell Lira's bicycle kick for Goianésia, external and Lionel Messi's mazy run for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao last May. 

    All worthy contenders, but there is some debate about another goal which is missing from the shortlist....

    England women's boss Mark Sampson has been announced as one of three nominees for Fifa World Coach of the Year in women's football after leading the Lionesses to bronze at the World Cup. After United States won the trophy in Canada, their head coach Jill Ellis is among the trio as is Japan's Norio Sasaki, whose side wer beaten in the final.

    Bournemouth forward Junior Stanislas says his late equaliser in their 3-3 draw with Everton is the first headed goal he can remember scoring.

    The 26-year-old netted his second of the game in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

    "I don't think I've ever got one with my head," he said. It's really unlike me, but I've got to give the manager some credit. He changed my position and pushed me inside, putting Joshua King out wide."

    Lewis Grabban is targeting a run in the Norwich side after scoring the equaliser against Arsenal on his Premier League return after he was suspended in August for refusing to be a substitute in a Capital One Cup tie at Rotherham.

    "Every player wants to stay in the team and scoring gives me a bigger chance to do that," the 27-year-old told the club's official website. 

    "The manager has been fine so I've just been working hard to get back into the team. Hopefully I can now move forward and the team can look forward to the next game. Getting the point was the most important thing for us."

    PDC World Darts champion Gary Anderson will start the defence of his title against either Denmark's Per Laursen or the runner-up from Monday's final qualifier after the draw was made for the 2016 tournament.

    Michael van Gerwen, who won his fourth straight PDC major title at the weekend by beating two-time world champion Adrian Lewis in the Players Championship Finals, will face either Thanawat Gaweenuntawong of Thailand or Rene Eidams of Germany.

    The 14-time PDC champion Phil Taylor will start his campaign against the winner of the preliminary round game between Japan's Keita Ono and Alex Tagarao of the Philippines.
