Last night we spent two and a half, three hours with them downstairs and we don’t really get the chance to do that, all of us together.

    Former US Masters champion Charl Schwartzel was thrilled to have returned to form with victory in the European Tour-opening Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.

    It was his first success in a year and 363 days and comes after he dropped to 50th in the world rankings.

    "Sometimes I wasn't sure it would ever turn around," the 31-year-old South African admitted after the win. 

    "If people realised the amount of work I have put in to the game over the last 18 months, they might understand why it means so much to me. This time last year my golf swing was probably in the worst place it has been in as a professional."

    Scotland's Stephen Maguire said the tables are "not good enough" for the UK Championship after he defeated Jamie Cope 6-0 to make the third round in York.

    "That's one of the worst tables I've played on," the world number 15, told BBC Sport.

    "It's not good for the crowd because we can't play good snooker. It's not good enough for a big tournament like this."

    World Snooker say they are aware of the players' concerns and are looking into ways to address the situation, with Maguire saying he had "no confidence" where the ball would end up after some of the bounces he was getting off the cushion.

    Birmingham director Panos Pavlakis has issued a statement on behalf of the club's board confirming they expect Rowett to stay at St Andrew's.

    "We are all keen to put any uncertainty to bed and look forward to the continuation of the great work Gary has done since his appointment," said the statement. 

    "Fans can rest assured that everyone at the Club is together as one striving for further improvement and success, with Gary at the helm as manager."

    He told BBC Radio 5 live Breakfast “The main thing that I tried to instil in the team was being as prepared as possible, and that comes in many guises - it’s about the training, the scouting of opposition which then leads to having clear game plans and tactics."

    "Someone like Andy is able to figure things out and react to any situation he’s in, it’s really incredible to watch", he said.  "The whole journey in tennis is a lonely one, although they have coaches and physios on the road, it is down to them, they’re playing for themselves. 

    "Andy has always enjoyed team competition, it’s something he really enjoys because you’re playing for the team, the country, and it really is a different feeling.”
