  3. Hospice given 19% stake in Inverness

    Here's a lovely tale...

    A charity that offers care to people dying from an incurable disease has become a major shareholder in Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

    The Highland Hospice has been gifted a 19% share - worth about 573,000 - in the Scottish Premiership outfit by an anonymous donor and becomes the club's second largest shareholder.

    The charity said it would use the shares to raise funds for a £7.5m redevelopment of its centre in Inverness.

  4. BreakingNaughton red card overturned

    Swansea City defender Kyle Naughton has had his red card overturned by the Football Association.

    Naughton was sent off by referee Graham Scott in the 37th minute of Wednesday night’s Premier League fixture against Sunderland following a challenge on Yann M’Vila.

    But the decision was overturned on appeal this afternoon and the defender is now available for Monday night’s fixture against Watford at the Liberty Stadium.

  6. Pereira could leave on loan

    Manchester United winger Andreas Pereira could leave the club on loan, report the Manchester Evening News.

    The 20-year-old has started just two League Cup games this season.

    Asked if he could move away from Old Trafford temporarily, Pereira said: “Normally yes so we will see what happens.

    “I want to stay here, of course, but you never know. We will see."

    Manor have signed former Ferrari chief designer Nikolas Tombazis as chief aerodynamicist.

    Tombazis, sacked by Ferrari after nine years following their winless 2014 season, joins the back-of-the-grid team with immediate effect.

    It is the latest in a series of changes as Manor try to improve their form.

    The team finished last in 2015 but have secured Mercedes engines and recruited Dave Ryan, who spent 30 years at McLaren, as racing director.

    What an incredible match, one of the best ever witnessed in the Masters and it's Judd Trump who emerges victorious, making a century in the decider to beat Neil Robertson 6-5.

    He will play Barry Hawkins in the semi-final on Saturday.

  10. Cardiff under transfer embargo

    Cardiff City have been placed under a transfer embargo by the Football League following a breach of financial fair play rules.

    The Bluebirds become the fourth Championship club currently under a transfer embargo, joining Bolton, Fulham and Nottingham Forest.

    It is the second time in six years that Cardiff have had such a sanction imposed upon them.

    The embargo will be in place for the rest of the January transfer window.

    Manchester United have struggled to find the back of the net this season but scored three times against Newcastle.

    Unfortunately for them, they also let in three to gain just a point at St James's Park.

    "I was more disappointed than the fans. I noticed that on the street," said manager Louis van Gaal. "I had a lot of support. But I say we lost two points. We have to win points. 

    "We have one on Tottenham but it is not enough. You have to win. Of course, the fans have also seen a match they have not seen."

    As we said earlier, Louis van Gaal and Jurgen Klopp have faced each other when they were managing in the Bundesliga.

    "You can see his hand. That is also very important," said Van Gaal. "You can see a very aggressive and pressing kind of playing the game. He has to learn the rhythm of the  Premier League.

    "He knows already the difference between the German and Premier Leagues. He is very capable to be a manager in the Premier League. The fans will love it."

    In the last Premier League news conference of the day, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been having his say.

    Asked if the game against Liverpool is still the biggest in the league, the Dutchman said: "It is how the fans see it. I feel it also already four times. 

    "We have played each other four times - in the USA and the league. You can see it in the faces of the players. 

    "Last year [Steven] Gerrard was [sent off] in 30 seconds. That doesn't happen so much. The passion to play these kinds of games is very high."

    Defender Phil Jones "could be back soon" but Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo are still unavailable.

  15. Trump and Robertson serving up a thriller

    A sensational battle taking place at Alexandra Palace between Judd Trump and Neil Robertson in the quarter-finals of the Masters.

    Five century breaks have been compiled by the two players with Robertson making 139 - the highest of the tournament.

    Not to be outdone, Trump hit back with a 140 to lead 5-4 and have one hand on the £10,000 highest break prize.
